NTO - President Ton Duc Thang

On the morning of August 18th, the Ho Chi Minh Institute and the Party Leaders, under the Ho Chi Minh National Political Academy, organized a scientific seminar with the theme: "Comrade Ton Duc Thang - An exemplary leader, a role model of national unity."

This event is one of the practical activities commemorating the 135th anniversary of the birth of President Ton Duc Thang (August 20, 1888 - August 20, 2023), a key leader of the Vietnamese Party and revolution, a close and long-time comrade-in-arms of President Ho Chi Minh , and an exemplary model of revolutionary ethics.

In his opening remarks at the seminar, on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Professor, Dr. Le Van Loi, Deputy Director of the Academy, stated that President Ton Duc Thang was born into a family with a rich tradition of patriotism on Ong Ho islet, Dinh Thanh commune, Long Xuyen province (now My Hoa Hung commune, Long Xuyen city, An Giang province).

He embraced revolutionary ideals early on, joining the patriotic movement and the international communist and workers' movement from the 1910s, becoming one of the pioneering communist fighters in Vietnam.

For nearly 70 years of continuous revolutionary activity, President Ton Duc Thang was entrusted by the Party and State with important responsibilities such as: Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, Acting Head (1946 - 1955), then Head of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly (1955 - 1960); Vice President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (1960 - 1969); President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (1969-1980); Chairman of the National Committee of the Vietnam-Lien-Viet Front (1951 - 1955), Chairman of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (1955 - 1977)... In every position, he set a shining example of unwavering loyalty, dedication, and selfless striving to fulfill his assigned tasks.

At the seminar, the presentations and speeches of the scientists focused on discussing and clarifying the life and revolutionary career of President Ton Duc Thang in the following aspects: a pioneering fighter of the workers' movement and the national liberation movement; a talented leader of the Party and the State, the most exemplary figure representing the Party's and President Ho Chi Minh's policy of national unity; an exemplary model of revolutionary ethics, and a close and long-time comrade-in-arms of President Ho Chi Minh.

The opinions emphasized that Uncle Ton – the affectionate and endearing name the people gave to President Ton Duc Thang – always had absolute faith in the path chosen by President Ho Chi Minh, and was an outstanding successor to President Ho Chi Minh's revolutionary cause. He lived and worked closely with President Ho Chi Minh for more than 20 years (1946-1969), and was "a close and long-time comrade-in-arms of President Ho Chi Minh." President Ton Duc Thang always educated and encouraged the study of Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality, and style, and throughout his life, he set a shining example of studying and applying Ho Chi Minh's thought in practice.

In his work and daily life, President Ton Duc Thang always upheld the spirit of humility, simplicity, and closeness to his comrades and fellow citizens. His exemplary moral character will forever be a source of pride and a great inspiration for cadres, Party members, and all strata of the people, especially the younger generation of Vietnam, to learn from and emulate.

The scientific seminar is a practical activity to commemorate and express gratitude for the immense contributions of President Ton Duc Thang to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, while also contributing to the implementation of Directive No. 05-CT/TW of the Politburo of the 12th Party Congress on promoting the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality, and style; and Conclusion No. 01-KL/TW of the Politburo on continuing to promote the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality, and style, closely linked to the work of building a clean and strong Party and political system, gradually realizing the aspiration for a prosperous and happy country.
