Fortunately born into a family with a tradition of working in the medical profession, Ms. Pham Thi Hong Lam (born in 1972) has always nurtured her passion and dream of becoming a doctor. In 1994, after graduating from Nghe An Medical High School, she started working at Ha Tinh Traditional Medicine Hospital.
Dr. Lam shared: “In the early days of entering the profession, in difficult and unfamiliar conditions, I was always guided and supported by senior doctors and colleagues. My mother is also a doctor and she advised me to “always put myself in the position of the patient to understand and share with them”. More than 7 years of working at Ha Tinh Traditional Medicine Hospital has helped me improve my expertise, professionalism, and practice medical ethics as my mother advised”.
To meet professional requirements, during this time, Dr. Lam continued to study and graduated from Thai Binh Medical University. In 2001, she transferred to Nghi Xuan District Medical Center, taking on the position of Deputy Head of the Oriental Medicine Department. In the new working environment, she continuously studied, improved her qualifications, cultivated medical ethics and developed medical skills.
During the examination and treatment process, she is always attentive and thoughtful to the patients, because she understands that with declining health and persistent physical pain, many patients become discouraged and easily give up halfway. The dedication, patience and encouragement from the doctor are a great source of motivation to help them firmly overcome the pain of illness.
With solid qualifications and professional capacity, in 2014, Dr. Lam was appointed as Deputy Director of Nghi Xuan District Medical Center. In her new position, she and the Board of Directors have led and directed the implementation of professional tasks such as consultation, emergency care for patients; professional training for doctors, nurses and staff of the center to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment. She has also contributed to directing commune health units to successfully complete the set plan. To date, 17/17 commune health stations in the area have met national standards on medical criteria in new rural construction; medical examination and treatment, and primary health care for people have achieved many remarkable results.
Despite her busy work, she still balances her professional work with her studies and scientific research. As a member of the Executive Committee of the Nghi Xuan District Oriental Medicine Association, Dr. Lam has actively advised on the development of the district's traditional medicine industry on the existing foundation. She has directed units to increase the use of traditional medicine in the treatment process, applying non-drug treatment methods. Along with that, she has guided the construction of model gardens of traditional medicine, combined Eastern and Western medicine treatment at health stations.
Her efforts not only contribute to improving professional quality but also inspire colleagues, especially young colleagues.

We respect her for her spirit of continuous learning and her enthusiasm and responsibility for her work and the team. During the working process, with her guidance and mentorship, young doctors and nurses have the opportunity to learn more about their expertise, skills, and improve their medical ethics.”
Not only does she fulfill her professional duties and management roles well, Dr. Lam is also very interested in supporting the activities of the trade union and volunteer work. She often proposes policies and regimes related to the benefits of the center's staff and doctors, especially female staff.
Dr. Lam also actively cooperates with the profession to implement many programs and activities to care for the material and spiritual life of union members and workers; organizes charity programs to support poor patients such as: "Bowl of love porridge", giving gifts, donating to support hospital fees...
With her continuous efforts, for many years, Dr. Lam has been a "Grassroots Emulation Fighter"; she has been commended many times by all levels and sectors. She has received certificates of merit from the Prime Minister, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Oriental Medicine Association, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Labor Federation. She is also the only female cadre of Ha Tinh to be selected for the "Vietnam Women's Award" in 2023; she was honored as "A model in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style" of Nghi Xuan district for the period 2021 - 2023.
On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the birth of the Great Physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac, Dr. Pham Thi Hong Lam was honored to receive the 8th "Hai Thuong Lan Ong" Award from the Ministry of Health (December 2024).
The awards from all levels of the industry are a worthy recognition of the efforts and contributions of Dr. Pham Thi Hong Lam, because she is not only a competent officer with solid professional qualifications but also a doctor who cares for patients, is responsible for the collective and colleagues. She is an example of medical ethics and medical skills for the officers, doctors, and staff of the center to learn from, and together strive to do better in the mission of taking care of people's health.
