As living standards improve, consumers tend to choose to buy specialty products for use during Tet. Grasping that need, at this time, many livestock households in the province have been focusing on increasing their herds and fattening their specialty animals to promptly supply the Tet market.
Mr. Tran Van Phong's family in Hop Chau town (Tam Dao) actively takes care of aquatic products to supply the Tet market.
Together with the commune officials, we visited the goat farm of Mr. Le Van Binh's family in Dao Duc town (Binh Xuyen). While busy cutting and mixing feed for the goats, Mr. Binh said: His family has been raising goats for more than 6 years. Previously, the family often sold breeding goats to households in and outside the province.
But in the past 3 years, due to the increased demand for goat meat, especially in the last months of the year, the family has kept them for commercial purposes. Currently, his family has more than 100 female goats and nearly 50 commercial goats.
Normally, each goat must be raised for at least 1 year before it can be sold. At that time, the goat will reach a weight of 30 - 40kg. Goats are not only easy to raise, have low risks, and not too high investment costs, but also very convenient to consume.
However, to ensure the quality of delicious, fragrant meat to supply the Tet market, in addition to the main foods such as elephant grass, corn flour, banana stems, beer dregs, etc., Mr. Binh's family also strictly applies biosafety farming measures, combined with the use of preparations to enhance the resistance of the goat herd.
According to Mr. Binh, the closer to Lunar New Year, the more consumers demand goat meat. Customers are not only restaurants, companies, and units buying to serve parties and year-end summaries, but many families also come to the farm to order.
Although there are still more than 3 months until the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024, currently, more than 50% of Mr. Binh's family's commercial goat herd has been ordered by customers. With a selling price of 110 - 120 thousand VND/kg, this year's Lunar New Year, his family estimates that they will earn nearly 100 million VND in profit.
Not only goat meat, specialties such as wild boar, rabbit, snails, tilapia, etc. are also popular items during Tet. This year, Mr. Nguyen Van Sau's family in Ngoc Bao village, Son Loi commune (Binh Xuyen) has more than 10 wild boars, of which 7 are commercial pigs.
In order to meet consumer demand during Tet, since the beginning of the 8th lunar month, Mr. Sau has been actively taking care of his family's wild boar herd, ensuring adequate nutrition; closely monitoring the disease situation to promptly take preventive measures, not allowing the disease to affect the growth of the pigs. At the same time, he has allowed the pigs to roam freely to ensure the best quality of meat.
According to Mr. Sau, wild boar meat is always a popular product among consumers during Tet. The closer to Tet, the higher the demand for wild boar, so the price is also higher. With 7 wild boars sold, this Tet, the family expects to earn about 50 million VND.
Mr. Dao Xuan Nam's family in Hop Chau town (Tam Dao) is currently raising more than 30 palm civets and more than 100 bamboo rats, porcupines, wild boars, etc. to supply the upcoming Tet market.
With 20 ponds raising snails, perch and frogs, at this time, Mr. Tran Van Phong's family, Cham Chi residential group, Hop Chau town (Tam Dao) is also actively taking care to ensure that aquatic products develop and have good quality, meeting market demand in the last months of the year.
Mr. Phong said: Currently, the family's snails, frogs and tilapia are always proactive in terms of output. In addition to serving the provincial market, the products are also exported to many provinces and cities across the country such as Hanoi , Hai Phong, Phu Tho, etc.
Normally, in the last months of the year, the demand for imported seafood specialties of restaurants increases. Currently, the family has prepared from 30,000 to 50,000 snails; 20,000 commercial frogs; thousands of perch to serve the upcoming Tet market.
According to the provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, there are currently hundreds of households raising specialty animals in the province, with animals such as wild boars, wild pigs, goats, deer, bamboo rats, civets, snails, frogs, etc. To supply the Tet market, at this time, livestock households in general, and households raising specialty animals in particular, have increased their herds by about 30%.
Developing specialty farming models not only brings high economic efficiency to people, but also contributes to providing consumers with more quality specialties to use during Tet.
However, in the last months of the year, the weather is erratic, with severe cold and rain creating favorable conditions for bacteria to grow and develop, causing harm to livestock. Therefore, breeders of specialty animals need to keep their barns clean and dry to limit the outbreak of disease.
Proactively implement cold-proof measures; ensure appropriate diet; supplement vitamins and minerals so that the animals have enough resistance to withstand harsh weather.
