North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspected a strategic missile base and ordered an strengthening of the nuclear deterrence capabilities of the country.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on October 23 that leader Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, inspected a strategic missile base. Accompanying the leader were Kim Jong-sik and Kim Yo-jong, First Vice-Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the WPK Central Committee, respectively.

During the inspection tour, Kim Jong-un checked the readiness of the strategic deterrence forces directly linked to national security.
The released images show Kim Jong-un wearing a black leather jacket, standing in front of a Hwasong-18 intercontinental ballistic missile. Another image also shows the leader standing next to a long-range hypersonic missile.

Noting that strategic missile forces are the core of the country's war deterrence, Kim Jong-un emphasized a defense strategy aimed at comprehensively modernizing the armed forces by prioritizing strategic missile forces.
The North Korean leader argued that U.S. strategic nuclear weapons pose a growing threat to the security environment, requiring the country to be more resolute in strengthening its deterrence capabilities and nuclear readiness.
Kim emphasized the need to further modernize and strengthen strategic missile bases, ensuring they are always ready to launch an immediate strategic counterattack against the enemy in any situation.
