The Government Committee for Religious Affairs informed that from 2017 to 2023, Mr. Le Anh Tu practiced self-cultivation, practiced alms-giving, and walked from the South to the North and vice versa three times.
During that process, Mr. Le Anh Tu's travel and practice of his vows went smoothly, without any difficulties or obstacles and without affecting security and order. 2024 was the fourth time Mr. Tu walked from Khanh Hoa province, following the main road to Cao Bang - Ha Giang and is currently going in the opposite direction, now reaching the Central region.
However, on the return journey of the 4th walk, a large crowd gathered to follow Mr. Le Anh Tu, affecting security, order and the environment.
Notably, on May 30, a man in the group named Luong Thanh Son (residing in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) suffered heat stroke, multiple organ failure, and gastrointestinal bleeding leading to death.
Then, on June 2, two women who were following Mr. Tu and his group suffered from heatstroke, exhaustion, and collapsed on the road. Authorities promptly took them to the hospital for treatment.
"In the face of the above unfortunate incident, the authorities met and discussed with Mr. Le Anh Tu about the State's consistent policy of respecting freedom of belief and religion of all people; local authorities always care about and create conditions for Mr. Le Anh Tu to walk and practice according to his wishes, but it is necessary to ensure the safety of people's lives and health and social stability. Mr. Le Anh Tu has clearly recognized the rights and obligations of a citizen, voluntarily stopping walking for alms," the announcement of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs stated.
The Government Committee for Religious Affairs recommends that, in order to ensure social stability, life, health and freedom of belief and religion, all people who have beliefs and religious needs should learn and practice the correct doctrines and canons of religions, in accordance with the fine customs, cultural traditions of the nation and the laws of the State.
In addition, people need to exercise their rights and obligations as citizens, not participate in activities that affect security, order and social safety; maintain a stable and healthy religious living environment; contribute to building a disciplined society, for the peace and happiness of the community.
