US President Donald Trump issued a record number of executive orders in his first nine days in office, marking a record pace compared to his predecessors, Axios reported on January 29.

Statistics from this news agency show that since being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, Trump has signed 38 executive orders, more than any of his predecessors in the early stages of their term.

According to the report, the scale and speed of executive orders issued by Trump are only comparable to those of the 46th President Joe Biden and the 33rd President Harry Truman. Both issued 40 executive orders in their first 100 days in office.

With more than two months remaining in his first 100-day term, Trump is expected to far surpass his predecessors in the number of executive orders issued. His initial executive orders cover a range of policies, including immigration, trade, energy production, and restructuring of federal agencies.

Axios argues that Trump is reshaping the federal government with a "shock campaign of unilateral actions that pushes the limits of presidential power."

However, observers warn that this "radical expansion" of executive power could lead to a wave of legal challenges.

During his campaign, Trump pledged to bring about rapid and far-reaching changes to the U.S. government if re-elected. In his first days back in the White House, he fulfilled that promise by signing numerous executive orders that reversed policies implemented under the Biden administration.

One of Trump's executive orders aimed to deny U.S. citizenship to children born in the country if neither parent was a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. A federal judge later suspended the order, calling it "unconstitutional."

Additionally, the new administration announced this week that it will temporarily halt federal payments to ensure compliance with Trump's directives, a move that has drawn criticism from the opposition.

Democrats and human rights activists accuse Trump of overstepping his authority. Legal experts also point out that the president does not have the power to unilaterally cut funding for programs already approved by Congress.
