This investment attracted familiar investors such as Thrive Capital and Khosla Ventures, along with Microsoft – OpenAI's largest partner – and new participation from Nvidia. The completion of the fundraising coincides with the company's restructuring efforts and leadership changes, including the abrupt departure of longtime chief technology officer Mira Murati last week.

Other investors participating in the funding round included Altimeter Capital, Fidelity, SoftBank, and Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund MGX.
Thrive Capital has committed $1.2 billion and has the option to invest an additional $1 billion next year if OpenAI meets its revenue targets. According to sources, Apple had previously discussed investing in OpenAI but ultimately did not participate.
Despite the personnel changes, investors remain optimistic, based on CEO Sam Altman's growth forecasts. The company expects to generate $3.6 billion in revenue this year, despite losses exceeding $5 billion. Next year, OpenAI predicts revenue will increase to $11.6 billion.
OpenAI's rapid growth since the launch of ChatGPT has garnered global attention, with 250 million weekly active users. The company's valuation has increased from $14 billion in 2021 to $157 billion, far exceeding Altman's earlier predictions.
The company also announced that it is still pursuing its goal of developing generalized artificial intelligence (AGI), an AI system capable of surpassing human intelligence, while pushing for commercialization and striving for profitability.
