Pep Guardiola calls back unexpected player to play against MU

Pep Guardiola has recalled midfielder Kalvin Phillips to the Man City squad for the Manchester derby.

The English player was expelled and was not allowed to train with the first team members during the pre-season.

But now Kalvin Phillips could make his first appearance for Man City in 21 months, having spent last season on loan at Ipswich.

Kalvin Phillips' last official appearance for the Citizens was against Urawa Red Diamonds at the Club World Cup on December 19, 2023.

He is facing the chance to revive his career when he was selected in the 25-man squad to play in the Premier League.

Kalvin Philipps will compete for a place with Rodri, Reijnders, Bernardo Silva, Nico Gonzalez and Kovacic.

However, since moving to Etihad in the summer of 2022, the former England international has rarely been used by Pep Guardiola.

In his first season, Phillips only played 12 matches and was sent to West Ham on loan for the following season.

Kalvin Phillips’ lack of regular playing time saw him dropped from the England squad. The player himself also lost form and played inconsistently under Ipswich last season.
