The goal is to have at least 6 communes meet the standards of new rural areas.

(CT) - According to the Office of Coordination of the National Target Program for Building New Rural Areas in Can Tho City, in 2026, the city will focus on improving the quality of new rural area construction in communes, striving to have at least 6 communes meet the new rural area standards according to the set of criteria for new rural communes in the 2026-2030 period, while also preparing the conditions to pilot a modern new rural commune model in accordance with the central government's orientation.

Developing production and increasing people's income has been identified by Can Tho City as a key solution in building new rural areas.

To achieve the set goals, the city is promoting and improving the quality of the emulation movement for building new rural areas in a way that is widespread and in-depth; strengthening training, fostering, and standardizing the team of officials and civil servants implementing the tasks of building new rural areas at all levels, ensuring they can adapt to the new organizational model and the requirements of the criteria set for the 2026-2030 period. At the same time, it is implementing solutions to mobilize and utilize resources effectively, combining capital sources from national target programs in a flexible manner; encouraging the participation of businesses and the community; prioritizing capital for criteria that are still lacking in each commune; and ensuring transparency in allocation and supervision to ensure resources are used for the right purposes.

Currently, Can Tho City has 59 out of 72 communes that meet the standards of New Rural Area (NRA), 15 out of 59 communes that meet the standards of Advanced NRA, and 2 out of 15 communes that meet the standards of Model NRA (Truong Long and Thoi Hung communes), while 13 communes have not yet met the NRA standards.
