Ronaldo is not on the nomination list. |
Despite scoring 33 goals in all competitions last season and winning the 2025 Nations League with Portugal, Ronaldo is still absent from the list.
A few hours after France Football magazine announced the nomination list, Ronaldo shared a status on his personal page with the content: "Keep working hard, there is still a lot to do". Along with that was a photo of himself celebrating a goal for Al Nassr.
At 40, Ronaldo will once again miss the awards ceremony in Paris next month. Notably, no player playing outside Europe's top five leagues is nominated, with the exception of Viktor Gyokeres after his breakout season with Sporting Lisbon (Portugal).
Ronaldo has repeatedly expressed his dissatisfaction with not being able to win the Ballon d'Or race. In 2021, CR7 criticized the organizers' decision to award the award to Messi instead of him. Last year, the Portuguese superstar declared that the award for men's players "no longer has credibility" after Rodri won over Vinicius Junior.
Ronaldo last won the award in 2017. Between 2004 and 2024, at least one of the two superstars Ronaldo or Messi was always on the nomination list.
