The launching ceremony of the Asian Mathematics Competition - AIMO for the 2025-2026 academic year officially took place at Hanoi University of Science and Technology on the afternoon of September 26.
AIMO for the 2025-2026 school year is not only a competition but also one of the activities to concretize the major orientations of the Party and State on education , science and technology. The spirit of Resolution No. 71 on educational and training breakthroughs and Resolution No. 57 on science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation development is transformed into action through an academic playground with international standards, transparency, fairness, promoting students to learn Math in English and apply technology to expand access to knowledge. Thereby, AIMO contributes to forming a class of students with good professional skills, good foreign language skills and ready to integrate - the core of high-quality human resources that the country needs.

AIMO (Asia International Mathematical Olympiad), founded by the Asian Mathematical Olympiad Committee in 2012, is one of the most prestigious English-language Math competitions in the region, with the participation of more than 20 countries and territories. Every year, over 150,000 students compete in this arena, thereby conquering thinking challenges, training their abilities and opening the door to integration. Vietnam officially joined AIMO in 2019. In just 6 years, Vietnamese students have won more than 220 international medals, affirming their increasingly solid position on the Asian intellectual map. In 2025 alone, Vietnam achieved its highest achievement ever with 1 Championship, 10 Gold medals, 7 Silver medals and 4 Bronze medals.
This year, the Organizing Committee focuses on expanding the scale, creating conditions for students from all regions to have the opportunity to test themselves. At the same time, it is hoped that in the future, the international competition can be organized in Vietnam, affirming the intellectual position of the country's students.
With the goal of opening up thinking and creating global citizens, AIMO for the 2025-2026 school year is designed with a dual goal: Continuing to nurture the love of Mathematics and the desire to explore knowledge in high school students, considering Mathematics not just as a score on paper but as a tool to understand the world and solve practical problems. At the same time, focusing on equipping core competencies of global citizens: Logical thinking, analysis and coherent reasoning; ability to apply and connect Math knowledge with technology fields; and the ability to use academic foreign languages to access international knowledge. Experience in taking tests and presenting in English helps candidates practice academic language - an important skill when entering the international university and research environment.

AIMO for the 2025-2026 school year for students from grades 2 to 12 is implemented according to a four-level interconnected roadmap, ensuring both open participation opportunities and screening of outstanding factors. The roadmap begins with the Preliminary round of the exam in the form of an online exam on the technology platform of AIMO Vietnam, taking place nationwide from November 2025 to December 2025, divided into 3 exam sessions. Each candidate can only take the exam once. Applying online technology helps AIMO remove geographical barriers, creating equal opportunities for all students across the country to access international standard exams.
Candidates with high scores will be selected to continue to the Regional round, which will be held in March 2026 in the 3 regions of North, Central and South in a direct format. This is the stage that not only tests math problem-solving ability but also trains exam manners, paper-based test-taking skills and concentration - important factors when taking national and international exams. The results of this round will determine the typical representatives to attend the National Final.
The National Finals are scheduled to take place before April 20, 2026, held in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, with the exam entirely in English. This is also the place to honor the best contestants of the season, and at the same time select the team representing Vietnam to participate in the international finals. The destination of the journey is the AIMO 2026 International Finals, held from August 1 to 5, 2026. The venue will be announced by the International AIMO Organization. Contestants will take the test on paper, with the exam entirely in English.
Detailed information about the rules, schedule and results will be publicly announced on the official website https://aimo.tienphong.vn.
