Launching a peak competition against IUU fishing

On the morning of August 28, the Steering Committee for Combating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU) of Khanh Hoa province held a launching ceremony for the peak emulation campaign against IUU fishing. Attending the launching ceremony were Mr. Trinh Minh Hoang - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial IUU Steering Committee; Colonel Nguyen Tuy - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Commander of the Provincial Military Command; members of the Provincial IUU Steering Committee; leaders of the Naval Region 4 Command, Navy Squadron 32 - Coast Guard Region 3 Command and 25 communes, wards and special zones with sea in the province.

Launching the emulation campaign, comrade Trinh Minh Hoang emphasized: The province is determined to seriously and effectively implement the directions of the Secretariat, the Government, the Prime Minister, the National Steering Committee on IUU to remove the "yellow card" of the European Commission (EC) and identified this as an important political task. After nearly 8 years of implementation, with the participation of the entire political system, along with synchronous solutions, the management of fisheries and the awareness of fishermen in strictly complying with the provisions of the law when exploiting at sea have been gradually improved. However, in reality, there are still some shortcomings in the management, inspection and supervision of fishing vessel activities that need to be promptly overcome in order to remove the "yellow card" IUU to protect the national reputation, the interests of fishermen and the sustainable development of the fisheries industry.

Comrade Trinh Minh Hoang requested all levels, sectors, localities and fishing communities in the province to actively respond to the emulation campaign with the spirit of "Decisive action - Exciting competition - Substantial results" and with specific and practical actions: Raising awareness, sense of responsibility, voluntary compliance with the law, legal exploitation of seafood, resolutely not participating in, not assisting in IUU fishing. Functional forces synchronously deploy patrolling, monitoring and strictly handling violations. Local authorities in coastal areas directly direct, control and strictly manage the fleet, especially the fleets that do not meet the operating conditions; step up propaganda and mobilization, not allowing local fishing vessels to violate IUU regulations. He hopes that Khanh Hoa fishermen will be the "pioneers" on the anti-IUU front; join hands and unite to maintain the reputation of the province's fishing industry.

Representatives of Nam Nha Trang Ward People's Committee signed the emulation agreement witnessed by provincial leaders.

After the speech of the provincial People's Committee leader, the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Provincial Military Command, the Provincial Police and the People's Committees of 25 communes, wards and coastal special zones signed an emulation agreement to effectively carry out the task of combating IUU fishing, with the main contents: Strengthening propaganda so that each person and each fisherman clearly understands and voluntarily implements the anti-IUU regulations for the goal of sustainable development of the fisheries sector; strengthening coordination, cooperation and information sharing among forces, ensuring strict control of all fishing activities in the province, especially fishing vessels that do not meet the operating conditions; ensuring that 100% of fishing vessels are inspected and carry out procedures in accordance with regulations before leaving or arriving at the port; strictly handling and publicizing IUU violations, absolutely not allowing fishing vessels and fishermen of Khanh Hoa province to violate foreign waters...
