On 5-6, the Center for Disease Control of Dien Bien province reported that an additional 2-year-old child was infected with anthrax in the area. This is the 14th case of anthrax recorded in this province.
Before that, Thao Thi D. (SN 2021, residing in Pu Xi, Tuan Giao district, Dien Bien) has symptoms of fever, vomiting, black purple spots and itching on the left arm. Then, the purple-black nodule enlarges and contains pus. The family took the baby to a bundle of medicine that did not help. On 4-6, grandchild D. was transferred to Dien Bien Provincial General Hospital for treatment and was diagnosed with pneumonia and anthrax.

Pediatric patient D. is a rare case because it is so young and has not been exposed to anthrax. According to the family, before that, they used pork and vegetables for food, not buffalo meat. There is no anthrax epidemic in the area.
It is known that from May 5 to 30, in Tua Chua district, Dien Bien, there were 5 outbreaks of anthrax with 3 cases. Specifically, Muong Bang commune: 13 coal outbreak, Xa Nhe commune appeared 1 coal outbreaks, so far no deaths have been recorded.
According to the Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health, anthrax, also known as anthracnose, is a dangerous acute infectious disease of warm-blooded animals (cattle, wild animals), which can be transmitted from animals to humans through contact, slaughter, and eating cattle, especially sick or dead buffaloes, cows, horses or in contact with the environment or soil with anthrax bacteria.
