Continue to develop the Bình Định geographical archive.
The Binh Dinh Provincial Library's archives currently hold nearly 3,000 books and documents on Binh Dinh's cultural heritage, and more than 7,600 digitized excerpts from local history books to serve researchers both domestically and internationally in studying and researching Binh Dinh. In addition to books and documents from Binh Dinh researchers, the Provincial Library also collects French-language documents translated from the National Library and the Hanoi Library related to trades, traditional crafts, the Quy Nhon - Binh Dinh region in the past, the old Quy Nhon port, etc., to provide readers with comprehensive local history materials of Binh Dinh province from the past to the present.
Mr. Tran Xuan Nhat, Deputy Director of the Provincial Library, said: “We have digitized nearly 600 books and excerpts from the Binh Dinh provincial archives to serve readers in learning and researching about Binh Dinh. In the future, we will continue to digitize books and excerpts from the provincial archives, store more films about festivals in Binh Dinh, and serve readers, especially those in remote, mountainous areas, to spread reading culture and contribute to promoting the history and culture of Binh Dinh.”
According to researchers, to maximize the value of Binh Dinh's local history archives, solutions should be implemented to digitize paper books and convert them into e-books for readers. Dr. Vo Minh Hai, a researcher of Han Nom (classical Chinese and Vietnamese script) and Deputy Head of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Quy Nhon University, stated: "The relevant authorities and the provincial library should hold thematic workshops introducing books about Binh Dinh, and implement policies to encourage authors to donate books or purchase book copyrights for digitization to make them more widely available to readers."
Sharing the same viewpoint, folklore researcher, Master of Science Tran Xuan Toan - lecturer at Quy Nhon University, Head of the Folk Arts Branch (Provincial Association of Literature and Arts), expressed: “Most of the books on the geography of Binh Dinh are stored in the provincial library's geographical archives, so there should be solutions to expand access channels for readers to learn and research, the most effective being publishing the books online. In addition, the promotion and introduction of books about Binh Dinh have not been widely disseminated for a long time, so there should be more activities, such as thematic talks about the books, and utilizing the geographical archives on digital platforms…”
Another important issue is the need for policies to encourage and support researchers writing about Binh Dinh. Researcher Nguyen Thanh Quang shared: “Most authors who have dedicated their hearts and souls to their homeland of Binh Dinh have researched, conducted fieldwork, and collected information to compile and self-publish books. Meanwhile, in this era of advanced information technology, the number of readers is small, and the number of writers about Binh Dinh is even smaller. Therefore, there is a great need for encouragement and support from relevant agencies and local authorities for authors, especially young authors, to produce works about the land and people of Binh Dinh, as well as literary, artistic, historical, and cultural works about Binh Dinh.”
