Officially becoming a city has created a new development space for Dong Nai. There, economic growth is no longer separate from the environment, but is shifting strongly towards a green, smart, and distinctive urban model.

Entering a new phase, Dong Nai is shaping its long-term strategic vision based on an open development space with multi-directional transportation infrastructure and a modern, multi-layered, multi-centered urban structure. Urban spatial organization is now closely linked to a profound economic transformation. The city is gradually developing high-tech industries, international logistics services, trade, and innovation.

Promoting green transition and sustainable consumption.

Appropriate spatial planning for next-generation industrial parks and innovation centers will contribute to increasing the added value of the urban economy. In recent years, industrial and commercial activities in the city have made significant efforts in digital transformation, creating a foundation for the development of the digital economy and promoting e-commerce. Simultaneously, it has boosted the application of technology in production, business, and consumption, and promoted green growth.

In this context, the service and trade sectors are increasingly focusing on green transformation, aiming for sustainable consumption. Large shopping malls and supermarkets in the area have begun to "green" by eliminating single-use plastics, applying clean energy, and digitizing operational processes. This change from the supply side has strongly boosted consumer awareness, transforming awareness into practical actions every day.

Ms. Minh Ha (from Tam Hiep ward) said: "Green transition actually starts with changing the materials and means we use every day. Before, when going to the supermarket or market, people would just grab a plastic bag, but now the younger generation is more conscious of protecting the environment by preparing their own water bottles and cloth bags."

Nguyen Quoc Minh, Director of Co.opmart Dong Xoai Supermarket (Binh Phuoc Ward), shared: The supermarket is increasing the display and introduction of environmentally friendly products, high-quality food items, and essential goods that are safe for consumers' health; as well as minimizing the use of single-use plastic products. Simultaneously, along with the Co.opmart supermarket system nationwide, Co.opmart Dong Xoai always encourages customers to use eco-friendly bags and paper bags for shopping; and collaborates with partners and manufacturers, especially private label brands, to gradually switch to using green packaging and producing environmentally friendly products.

Many experts believe that Dong Nai can orient itself, refer to, and implement projects and models linking digital transformation with green growth based on the local advantages and potential, for example, implementing projects on smart and sustainable agriculture , models on smart cities and energy management, models on digital and green industries, etc.

In particular, Dong Nai will develop major regional logistics centers, including those connected to Long Thanh International Airport and Phuoc An Port, which possess many advantages for development. Therefore, investing in green port infrastructure, modernizing equipment using clean energy, and building green supply chains and logistics plays an increasingly important role.

Expanding green urban spaces with more amenities.

Another crucial requirement in the new city's development strategy is improving the quality of life for its residents. A distinctive ecological urban model, integrating "urban - industrial - service - ecological" elements, will create large-scale "green lungs," helping to protect biodiversity and proactively adapt to climate change. In particular, public spaces, urban parks, and riverside areas need significant investment to create a favorable and community-friendly living environment.

Dong Nai has chosen its river system and natural ecosystem as the main landscape axis; developing smart transportation, smart cities, and green, ecological urban areas. Prioritizing riverside spaces is not only an infrastructure solution but also the greatest aspiration of the people for a peaceful and proud living space.

Mr. Thien Thanh (from Tran Bien ward) shared: “Dong Nai has a great advantage in its beautiful river system. When the city plans, people hope that public spaces along the rivers will be prioritized for investment and transformed into parks and green areas. These are not only places for children to play and breathe fresh air, but also represent the ecological face and pride of a livable city.”

In the context of digital transformation coupled with green transformation, building green and smart cities is one of the solutions to help Dong Nai promote a new growth model. Dong Nai has many foundations and prerequisites for developing smart city models, as well as implementing green and environmentally friendly urban models.

One of the specific socio-economic growth targets in the 500-day special emulation campaign "Unity - Discipline - Efficiency - Breakthrough, building a civilized and modern Dong Nai" is to significantly improve the investment, production, and business environment; shorten the processing time for procedures related to investment, land, construction, and the environment; support businesses, cooperatives, and business households in stabilizing production, expanding investment, innovating technology, and enhancing competitiveness; and promote investment attraction in high-tech industries, supporting industries, logistics, trade and services, urban development, high-tech agriculture, digital transformation, green economy, and circular economy.

One of the six strategic directions set forth by General Secretary and President To Lam for Dong Nai city is to build a city for its people. Every citizen should benefit from the fruits of development. A developed city is not just about a large economy, high income, many high-rise buildings, or modern infrastructure; first and foremost, it must have a high quality of life for its people. Therefore, Dong Nai needs to better care for employment, housing, schools, hospitals, cultural institutions, public spaces, and the living environment, especially for workers, laborers, people in remote and disadvantaged areas, border regions, and vulnerable groups.

Urban development in Dong Nai now focuses not only on economic growth but also on ensuring social factors and the quality of life for its people. Associate Professor Dr. Vu Tuan Hung, Director of the Southern Region Institute of Social Sciences (under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences), stated: “Upon becoming a city, Dong Nai has many resources for development, as well as the need to meet the criteria and standards of a city and create advantages for rapid and sustainable local development. The most important measure of development is ensuring harmony, sustainability, and placing the people at the center of development.”

Therefore, localities need to develop and implement mechanisms and policies to continuously improve the quality of life for people in the area… These include policies related to social security, education and training, and the development of social infrastructure to ensure people's well-being, such as clean water, sanitation, schools, healthcare, and cultural institutions…
