The workshop aims to create a forum for discussion on the orientation of developing environmentally friendly transport and green transport in Hue City in the context of the Vietnamese Government's commitment at COP26 and the action program on green energy transition, reducing carbon and methane emissions in the transport sector; reviewing and assessing barriers, limitations, opportunities and development trends of road public transport types, proposing solutions for developing environmentally friendly public transport in Hue City.

At the workshop, speakers presented papers on "Transportation development plan of Thua Thien Hue province towards 2030, vision to 2050", "Orientation for developing environmentally friendly transport and green transport in Hue city", "Experience in developing green transport of some cities in the world". Thua Thien Hue Institute for Development Studies also reported on a pilot study of green transport policy for motorbike delivery staff in Hue city. The workshop discussed the roadmap for developing public road transport in Hue city and the green transport development plan for Hue city.

According to Mr. Le Toan Thang, Deputy Director of the Department of Transport, Thua Thien Hue province has made many preparations for the development of green transport infrastructure and public transport such as: Provincial planning and general urban planning, towards completing the main transport framework, radial transport through 3 connecting belts approved by the Prime Minister in 2023, in which green transport and bicycle transport are oriented in planning projects; studying the project to develop a bicycle network in the central area with the orientation of completing the system of walking paths combined with bicycles along the North and South banks of the Huong River; The Provincial People's Committee has issued a decision on adjusting the method of operation, optimizing the journey of public passenger transport by bus in Thua Thien Hue province...

With the goal of building a smart, green and sustainable urban management system, Thua Thien Hue wishes to cooperate with businesses in implementing electric bus services, electric taxis (gradually replacing the current system), bicycles... At the same time, aiming for green transport services and focusing on public transport along with institutions to reduce personal vehicles, reduce emissions to build Hue City into a green city, an ecological city and towards Net zero according to the COP26 commitment.
