Mitsubishi has just officially introduced the 2025 Outlander Trail Edition in the US market. This is the first time this mid-size SUV has been added with an "off-highway" design package. The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition SUV is aimed at customers who love adventure and outdoor images - although it is still a purely urban vehicle.
In terms of appearance, the Outlander Trail Edition is refreshed with black plastic details on the wheel arches, lower bumper and body. Mitsubishi also offers the option of a Thule Caprock roof rack with accessories for kayaks, storage boxes or bicycle racks... Highlights include black decals on the hood and sides, the "Trail Edition" logo on the tailgate, and a series of details such as door handles, rearview mirrors, Dynamic Shield grille and glass edges are all painted black to increase the toughness. The details create the appearance of a true outdoor SUV. The model uses a set of exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels painted in black, with a mesh design, combined with Cooper Discoverer Road + Trail tires for increased grip. The Trail Edition interior continues to carry the Outlander's comfortable and modern style, with synthetic leather seats combined with black suede, heated front seats, panoramic sunroof, Yamaha 8-speaker sound system...
The car also has all-weather floor mats and luggage compartment lining, headlight washers, heated wipers, five USB-C ports and the Mi-Pilot Assist driver assistance package with active safety features such as adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist. Although the exterior design is refined in a more "rugged" style, the Outlander Trail Edition has no technical upgrades compared to the standard version. The car still uses a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, CVT transmission and S-AWC all-wheel drive system, while the suspension system remains unchanged. Therefore, this SUV is more suitable for gravel roads or light picnics, rather than harsh terrain.
2025 will be the last year Mitsubishi will offer the Outlander with a pure internal combustion engine. Starting in 2026, the model will switch to a 1.5L turbocharged engine with a mild hybrid system or a newly upgraded plug-in hybrid configuration. The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition starts at $39,295, $1,360 more than the SE trim it's based on. In the "off-road" SUV segment, the Trail Edition will compete with rivals such as the Nissan Rogue Rock Creek, Subaru Forester Wilderness, Honda CR-V TrailSport Hybrid and Toyota RAV4 Woodland Edition.
