After days of intense competition in Cambodia, the 32nd SEA Games officially concluded with many impressive and unforgettable moments. Leading the overall medal table with 355 medals (136 gold, 105 silver, and 114 bronze), the Vietnamese sports delegation had a successful SEA Games, exceeding the set target. Every time the red flag with a yellow star was raised, millions of Vietnamese people felt immense pride. Notably, among the precious gold medals of the Vietnamese delegation, many were achieved by female athletes.
First, we must mention Nguyen Thi Oanh – the petite girl who won four individual gold medals. Participating in the 32nd SEA Games in four running events (1,500m, 3,000m steeplechase, 5,000m, 10,000m), the 1.5m "superwoman" finished first in all four, striking fear into many competitors. Fans are still deeply moved by her determination to win two gold medals in just 30 minutes – a truly unbelievable feat.
Notably, out of Vietnam's 12 gold medals in athletics, 10 were in women's events. Besides "Oanh Ỉn" (a nickname for the female athlete), Nguyễn Thị Huyền (400m hurdles), Nguyễn Linh Na (heptathlon), Huỳnh Thị Mỹ Tiên (100m hurdles), Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà (800m), Nguyễn Thị Thanh Phúc (20km race walk)... all performed exceptionally well.
Not only in women's sports but also in football, the king of sports, female strikers have outperformed their male counterparts. While the U22 Vietnam team only won a bronze medal, Huynh Nhu and her teammates sang the national anthem on the medal podium for the fourth consecutive time. This is also the eighth SEA Games gold medal for the Vietnamese women's football team, helping to solidify their position as number one in Southeast Asia and creating a perfect springboard for the upcoming World Cup finals.
In basketball, Vietnam won its first-ever gold medal in history, in the women's 3x3 relay. The twin sisters Truong Thao My and Truong Thao Vy played a major role in this achievement. In cycling, in the women's 100.4km mass start road race, veteran athlete Nguyen Thi That demonstrated superior experience and class by stepping onto the top podium for the fifth consecutive time – an unprecedented record.
For Duong Thuy Vi (Wushu, performance category), the SEA Games 32 gold medal, won on her 30th birthday, was a wonderful reward for her persistent efforts. It had been 10 years since Thuy Vi first won a SEA Games gold medal, and this was her seventh gold medal at the region's biggest sporting event. In addition, Vietnamese female martial artists in other sports such as Kun Khmer, Kun Bokator, Judo, Kick Boxing, etc., also brought home numerous gold medals.
The 32nd SEA Games have concluded, but the beautiful emotions and memories will undoubtedly remain in the hearts of many. Each medal won by the athletes is meaningful and worthy of respect. Their national spirit and unwavering determination serve as shining examples for the younger generation to follow.
Furthermore, the image of Vietnamese women, with their resilience in overcoming difficulties to create extraordinary strength, always leaves a lasting impression of admiration among international friends. Even some athletes, despite being older, married, and having children, maintain high performance levels and have no intention of retiring.
