On the afternoon of May 8, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting issued a warning about a cold air mass moving down from the North, which will directly affect the weather in the Northern and North Central provinces in the next 2-3 days. The cold air can cause widespread thunderstorms.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that around May 10, cold air will begin to affect some areas in the mountainous regions of the Northeast, then expand from the evening and night of May 10, spreading to the entire Northeast, North Central, Northwest and part of the Central Central regions.

On land, the wind will change direction to Northeast level 2-3, coastal areas level 3-4. Temperatures in the North and North Central regions will drop sharply from the night of May 10, the weather will turn cooler. In mountainous areas, some places will turn cold with the lowest temperature commonly 20-23 degrees Celsius, high mountainous areas below 18 degrees Celsius.

Along with the cold air, from the night of May 9 to May 11, the Northern and North Central regions will have moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms, and very heavy rain in some places. From the afternoon of May 10, the rain will spread to the Central Central region, with some places experiencing localized heavy rain. Dangerous weather phenomena such as tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind are likely to occur, which can affect crops, livestock and the transportation system, especially in mountainous areas.

Before the cold air arrived, today, May 8, the Northeast, Northwest and from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen experienced a day of intense heat. Many localities recorded temperatures at 1 p.m. today reaching 35-38 degrees Celsius, some places above 39 degrees Celsius such as Phu Yen (Son La) 39.4 degrees Celsius, Quy Chau (Nghe An) 40 degrees Celsius. Humidity is generally low (50-55%).

It is forecasted that on May 9, the heat wave will continue in the Northwest and Central regions with the highest temperature reaching 36-38 degrees Celsius, some places over 39 degrees Celsius. In the Northeast, the temperature will be 35-37 degrees Celsius. However, from May 10, the widespread heat wave will completely end in the North and Central regions.
