On Monday morning, during the flag-raising ceremony at Phinh Ho Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School in Phinh Ho commune, in addition to the usual announcements about teaching and learning, the school's management also educated students on how to keep warm, reminded them to wear shoes and sandals, and maintain personal hygiene.

In the 2025-2026 school year, Phinh Ho Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School will have 15 solid classrooms and 12 out of 14 solid boarding rooms, with nearly 500 students, including 302 boarding students, 244 from impoverished families, 4 students with disabilities, and 100% of students from ethnic minority groups in particularly difficult areas.

To keep students warm and healthy during the winter, the school regularly adjusts the menu to provide adequate nutrition and boost immunity. The kitchen staff is instructed to prepare and deliver food close to mealtime, ensuring meals are always hot, and to keep drinking water warm daily for students. In the evenings, assigned teachers directly check each room to assess living conditions and promptly provide blankets and bedding to ensure students stay warm. In particular, the school closely collaborates with the local health station to monitor students' health and organize timely examinations and treatment for common winter illnesses such as seasonal flu and respiratory infections.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Tien, Principal of Phinh Ho Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School, said: “We recognize that keeping students warm and taking care of their health is not only an immediate task during the winter, but also a crucial factor in maintaining student enrollment and ensuring the long-term quality of teaching and learning at the school. Along with solutions regarding nutrition, health, and facilities, from the beginning of winter, the school has mobilized social resources from charitable organizations, individuals, and businesses to provide an additional 100 warm blankets and hundreds of warm jackets for students.”
To proactively protect students from the cold, Hoa Mai Kindergarten in Phinh Ho commune annually mobilizes companies, organizations, individuals, and philanthropists to support them with warm clothing and equipment. This school year, the school has 8 classes with over 190 students, 100% of whom are children of the Mong ethnic minority.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich, Principal of Hoa Mai Kindergarten, said: "Located in a mountainous area with a cold climate, in addition to purchasing supplies and equipment and mobilizing social support for warm clothes for students, the school's management always implements many proactive solutions to prevent and combat the cold for students, such as: raising awareness and encouraging parents to dress their children warmly when coming to class. Limiting outdoor activities, closing doors to avoid drafts, installing curtains, laying foam mats, sealing gaps, and adding extra blankets and mattresses. Currently, the school has a water warmer system, ensuring the health of students, and parents can rest assured sending their children to study and live there during cold weather."

For the 2025-2026 school year, Phinh Ho commune has 7 schools from preschool to junior high school with 119 classes and nearly 3,520 students. To protect students from the cold, the commune has directed schools to strengthen communication with students and parents about how to care for and protect their health in cold weather; implement measures to preserve food and water to avoid food poisoning and diarrhea; and closely coordinate with health stations in monitoring and treating common winter illnesses.

Comrade Hoang Anh Tuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phinh Ho commune, said: “To proactively prevent and combat the cold for students, the commune has directed schools in the area to focus on nutrition, increase meal portions, and prepare energy-rich foods that are beneficial to health during the cold season. Schools proactively monitor weather forecasts on mass media and, based on actual weather conditions, arrange physical education classes appropriately to ensure students' health, limiting outdoor activities on days when temperatures drop low. Schools proactively review and ensure adequate facilities to keep students warm. Since the beginning of winter, the attendance rate of schools has consistently remained between 95% and nearly 100%.”

Thanks to the close guidance of the local Party committee and government, and the proactive and responsible efforts of the education sector, the work of preventing and combating cold weather for students in Phinh Ho commune has been implemented comprehensively, promptly, and effectively. These practical solutions not only contribute to ensuring the health of students in the highlands during the cold winter months, but also create an important foundation for maintaining stable teaching and learning practices and quality, contributing to the successful achievement of the local education development goals for the 2025-2026 school year.
