At the reception, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki expressed his deep condolences for the loss and heavy damage suffered by people in the northern provinces of Vietnam after the recent storm No. 3.
From the Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan sent a letter of condolence to Vietnam; at the same time, on September 15, the Japanese Government, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), decided to send aid including water filtration equipment and multi-functional plastic sheets to Yen Bai province to help people in the affected areas overcome the consequences of natural disasters and soon stabilize their lives.
In addition, through the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disasters (AHA Centre), Japan has also provided emergency relief goods worth approximately 230 thousand USD through the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund.
The Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam affirmed that for Japan, Vietnam is one of the close and important countries. When one side encounters difficulties, the other side also has the responsibility to support and share. The Ambassador recalled the 2011 earthquake in Japan, Vietnam also supported Japan a lot. This time, when Vietnam suffers damage due to natural disasters, the Embassy and Japanese businesses also want to show their support and assistance.
“With extensive experience in natural disaster prevention and control, the Japanese Government hopes to coordinate with the United Nations to help Vietnam quickly overcome the consequences of the storm. Develop general and long-term plans to help people quickly restore production and return to normal life,” the Ambassador emphasized.
Receiving the donation, on behalf of the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the Central Relief Mobilization Committee, Vice President Hoang Cong Thuy expressed his sincere gratitude for the deep affection, sharing, and willingness to support of the Japanese leaders and people for the Vietnamese leaders and people who are heavily affected by the storm, demonstrating the close friendship and mutual love between the two peoples of Vietnam and Japan; at the same time, he affirmed that the support from the Embassy and Japanese enterprises is a source of motivation for people to have more resources, soon return to production and stabilize their lives.
Vice Chairman Hoang Cong Thuy emphasized that in Vietnam, the Party, State, Government, Vietnam Fatherland Front and domestic and foreign organizations and individuals have been focusing all resources, material and human resources to support people in disaster areas to stabilize their lives soon; equipping means and creating livelihoods for people after the storm.
“In addition, we always receive the attention, support and sharing of friends around the world, especially the State and people of Japan. The relationship between Vietnam and Japan has many similarities and is a precious tradition. Vietnam always receives timely attention and assistance from Japan, especially during natural disasters and floods,” said Vice President Hoang Cong Thuy.
Vice President Hoang Cong Thuy also expressed his wish that the Japanese Embassy and Japanese businesses in Vietnam would continue to accompany Vietnam, creating more resources and solutions to help Vietnam quickly overcome the consequences of storm No. 3; helping Vietnam have long-term strategies to cope with the impacts of natural disasters.
“We commit that the Central Relief Mobilization Committee will use the donated money for the right purposes, requirements and publicly in accordance with the law; allocate it promptly, transparently, to the right people, at the right addresses in the localities affected by storm No. 3,” Vice Chairman Hoang Cong Thuy affirmed.
