(Chinhphu.vn) - On the morning of July 11, at the Presidential Palace, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan received social activist and the first female astronaut of Vietnamese origin to fly into space, Amanda Nguyen.

At the reception, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan congratulated and praised Ms. Amanda Nguyen for becoming the first Vietnamese woman to fly into space, demonstrating the spirit of constant exploration , striving to conquer new heights, contributing to inspiring Vietnamese women and youth.

The Vice President appreciated Ms. Amanda Nguyen's efforts and contributions in preventing violence against women as well as her role in promoting the adoption of the Resolution on the rights of survivors of sexual violence by the United Nations General Assembly in 2022.

Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy in promoting gender equality and creating a safe and fair environment for women, emphasizing that Vietnam always respects and protects the legitimate rights of women, including the rights stated in the Resolution.

Informing about the consistent policy of the Vietnamese Party and State towards the overseas Vietnamese community, considering the overseas Vietnamese community an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation, the Vice President expressed his joy at the growth and success of the Vietnamese community in the United States, playing an increasingly important role in the political and social life of the host country and always looking towards the homeland, and at the same time asked Ms. Amanda Nguyen to continue to promote her personal role in promoting people-to-people exchange activities between Vietnam and the United States, especially in the context of the two countries organizing many meaningful activities on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.

Ms. Amanda Nguyen thanked the Vice President for taking the time to meet her and share her honor and emotion at being the first Vietnamese woman to fly into space, affirming that all her achievements are thanks to her Vietnamese roots that she is always proud to carry within her. Sharing her feelings when looking at the Earth from space, Ms. Amanda Nguyen expressed her deep feelings about the love and responsibility to preserve the common home of humanity, especially her love for Vietnam.

Regarding efforts to prevent violence against women, Ms. Amanda Nguyen thanked Vietnam for its support for the Resolution on the rights of survivors of sexual violence adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2022, expressing her wish to continue receiving Vietnam's support in this field.

Affirming that she always holds Vietnam in an important place in her heart, Ms. Amanda Nguyen pledged to contribute her efforts to promote Vietnam-US science and technology cooperation, focusing on training human resources in this field.

Attending the reception, US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper reported to the Vice President on the positive developments in the Vietnam-US relationship in recent times, affirming that the US shares Vietnam's socio-economic development goals and will always accompany Vietnam in the process of realizing these goals. The Vice President expressed his joy at the achievements of the Vietnam-US relationship and congratulated the Ambassador on the occasion of the US Independence Day.
