Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan: Voluntary blood donation needs to be honored and spread

On the afternoon of June 4, at the Presidential Palace, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan met with a delegation of 100 outstanding voluntary blood donors nationwide in 2025 on the occasion of International Blood Donor Day (June 14).

Expressing his emotions when meeting 100 outstanding national blood donors, the Vice President emphasized that our nation has many good traditions, notably the spirit of mutual love and caring for others as we love ourselves. In times of difficulty and adversity, that heart and tradition are further expanded, spread and responded to by many people, creating a common cultural feature of the nation and country.

In the field of medicine , taking care of people's health, all over the country, there are many volunteer activities and meaningful movements. Everywhere there are volunteer ambulances, free kitchens, charity meals in hospitals, kind hearts sharing with each other...

Recognizing and praising the positive results of the voluntary blood donation movement after more than 30 years of formation and development, the Vice President stated that the voluntary blood donation movement in our country has continuously developed, gradually meeting the needs of people's health care in the new period.

Recalling the song "Living in life requires a heart", the Vice President shared: Each person has their own way of giving. Blood donated is a way of giving that lasts forever, creating opportunities for people undergoing medical treatment. This is not just about material things but also about affection, heart, and more importantly, it transmits trust and love between people. This way of giving is extremely noble and needs to be honored, spread, and create an increasingly better movement in society.

The Vice President affirmed that our Party and State always pay attention to and give special priority to leading and directing the work of caring for and improving people's health. In particular, General Secretary To Lam has put forward many major policies, including assigning the Government Party Committee to direct the Party Committee of the Ministry of Health to preside over and coordinate with the Central Policy and Strategy Committee and relevant agencies to study and develop a resolution of the Politburo to lead and direct to create a breakthrough in the work of caring for people's health, meeting the requirements of national development in the new era, thereby gradually reducing the burden of medical costs for people, moving towards free hospital fees for all people in the period from 2030 - 2035...

On this occasion, the Vice President commended the Ministry of Health, the Vietnam Red Cross Society, localities, organizations and individuals involved for their great responsibility, dedication, and changes in methods and approaches, contributing to creating a widespread movement throughout the country and achieving meaningful results.

The Vice President stated that in the context of many difficulties and challenges, the demand for people's health quality is increasing, a good, stable, scientific and sustainable blood source for health is a requirement that the health sector needs to continue to pay attention to in order to serve the treatment and health care of the people.

Leaders of the health sector, the Vietnam Red Cross Society, and relevant agencies continue to research and forecast the upcoming demand for blood; from there, develop plans, strategies, and advise the Party and State to have timely policies and guidelines that can be put into practice; create the most favorable conditions in terms of facilities, locations, equipment, human resources, etc. for everyone to participate in blood donation; continue scientific research to preserve the precious blood source sustainably, with quality, and effectively used.

In addition, the Vice President requested that appropriate propaganda methods be developed to mobilize and spread examples of good people and good deeds in the voluntary blood donation movement, so that people can understand, respond and participate more strongly.

Expressing gratitude to the exemplary voluntary blood donors, the Vice President said that these are simple yet noble examples, along with millions of voluntary blood donors across the country, creating a meaningful movement across the country.

The Vice President hopes that exemplary role models will continue to spread meaningful, humane and charitable work in the community through specific actions and methods; from there, people will understand, support and participate more and more, creating a sustainable movement in society.

Thanking the Vice President for taking the time to meet him, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, hoped that the Party and State leaders would continue to pay attention and direct Party committees and authorities at all levels to create favorable conditions in terms of mechanisms and policies for voluntary blood donation in order to provide enough blood for emergency and treatment of patients nationwide, contributing to protecting, caring for and improving people's health.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh, Vice President and General Secretary in charge of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, hopes that all levels, sectors, organizations and the whole society will continue to spread the humane message "Donate blood, give hope - Join hands to save people" to the community and all people. The Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, will concretize the Vice President's direction into a practical action program and plan with a spirit of initiative, responsibility and innovation.

Since 1994, Vietnam has received over 23 million blood donations. Of which, since 2014, over 1 million units of blood have been received each year. The amount of blood received in 2024 will reach nearly 1.75 million units. The voluntary blood donation rate is 98%, equivalent to over 1.7% of the population participating in blood donation.
