On December 17, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son had meetings with Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith and Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
Within the framework of his visit to Laos and co-chairing the 11th Vietnam-Laos Foreign Ministers' Political Consultation, on December 17, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son had meetings with Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith and Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
At the meeting with Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son respectfully conveyed the greetings of General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to the Lao General Secretary and President and senior Lao leaders.
Warmly congratulating Laos on its important achievements, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son believes that Laos will successfully organize Party Congresses at all levels, towards the 12th National Party Congress, continuing to build Laos into a rich and prosperous country with an increasingly high position in the region and the international arena.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son reported to Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith on the results of the Political Consultation with Lao Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane on December 16. The important mechanism co-founded by Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith when he was the Foreign Minister has been implemented very effectively and practically, especially in thoroughly grasping the direction of the two Politburoes in reviewing the implementation of the two countries' High-Level Agreement.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his delight at the positive development of bilateral cooperation in many areas, as demonstrated by the meeting between Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith and General Secretary To Lam, the meeting between the two Politburoes, and meetings between senior leaders of the two countries. Bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation has seen many improvements, striving to reach 2 billion USD in 2024, with both sides actively reviewing and removing obstacles in a number of key projects.
Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith conveyed the greetings of Lao senior leaders to Vietnamese senior leaders; highly appreciated the results of cooperation between the two countries in recent times, and suggested that the two countries actively exchange information and share experiences in preparing for the National Party Congress in each country, in Party building, political system building, socio-economic management and international integration, along with measures to implement the upcoming Congress Resolution of each Party.
The Lao Party General Secretary and President expressed his delight that difficulties and obstacles in a number of key projects have been, are being, and will soon be resolved, making a positive contribution to the socio-economic development of Laos and the relationship between the two countries. Lao Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith highly appreciated the fact that the two countries' Foreign Ministries regularly maintain an important cooperation mechanism for the two sides to discuss in depth important and strategic issues in the bilateral relationship as well as regional and international cooperation in a spirit of frankness and trust, contributing to advising the Party and State leaders of each side in foreign affairs.
Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith once again expressed his gratitude for Vietnam's material and spiritual support during Laos's chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2024, affirming that this is a common success of the two countries.
At the meeting with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son conveyed the regards of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the Lao Prime Minister; congratulated Laos on its important achievements in the fields of politics, socio-economy, culture and education, the continuous improvement of the material and spiritual life of the people, and the increasingly enhanced position of Laos in the region and in the international arena.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son congratulated Laos on successfully fulfilling its role as ASEAN Chair in 2024; affirmed that the Foreign Ministries of the two countries will make efforts to coordinate with ministries and sectors of the two sides to continue to effectively implement agreements, programs and cooperation projects between Vietnam and Laos, and actively prepare for important foreign affairs activities of the two countries in the coming time, including the 47th Meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee on Bilateral Cooperation.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone affirmed that the Lao Party, State, Government and people always attach importance to and give the highest priority to consolidating and enhancing the great relationship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam; emphasized the high political trust when the two Prime Ministers had many bilateral meetings in 2024; highly appreciated the visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son and the political consultation mechanism between the two countries' Ministries of Foreign Affairs, which actively contributed to promoting bilateral relations as well as cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs on international and regional issues of mutual concern.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone agreed to direct Lao ministries, departments and agencies to review and promote the implementation of high-level agreements reached by the two countries in the past; looked forward to welcoming Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to co-chair the 47th Meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of the two countries and comprehensively implement cooperation areas and important commemorative activities in 2025.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone shared that Laos is implementing Resolution 04 of the Politburo on developing an independent and self-reliant economy, hoping that Vietnam will share its experience in economic development; highly appreciated Vietnamese enterprises operating in Laos and continued to call on Vietnamese corporations and enterprises to invest in Laos in all fields, helping Laos develop its socio-economy, contributing to improving people's lives./.
