Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Freeland, who is known not to own a car, was fined $200 for speeding in his home state of Alberta.

Katherine Cuplinskas, spokesperson for Canadian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, confirmed on August 22nd that Freeland was driving at 132 km/h while traveling in the towns of Grande Prairie and Peace River in her home province of Alberta. The Deputy Prime Minister was fined for speeding and has paid the full $200 penalty.

Spokesperson Cuplinskas did not specify when the incident occurred. The maximum speed limit on highways in Alberta is 110 km/h.

Freeland also had 4 points deducted from his driver's license. In Alberta, drivers who lose 8 points in two years will have their driving license suspended for one month.

Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Freeland, 55, is known for her love of cycling and frequently posts photos of herself with the vehicle. Last month, Ms. Freeland said her father was shocked to learn she didn't own a car.

"I walk and take the subway. My children also walk, bike, and take the subway. It's really good for my family's health," said Mrs. Freeland.
