On October 2, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son chaired the 6th meeting of the State Steering Committee for important national programs, works and projects, key to the energy sector.
At the meeting, the Government leader stated that to achieve a growth rate of over 8% this year and double-digit growth in the next period, the electricity industry needs to achieve a growth rate 1.5 times higher than GDP growth, equivalent to 8,000 MW/year.
He emphasized that this is a huge requirement to meet the needs of attracting high-tech projects, semiconductor chip manufacturing, digital transformation, and building national data centers...
However, the Deputy Prime Minister assessed that many tasks were still being implemented slowly, or even had no progress, in which the site clearance for power grid projects to release capacity of Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 Power Plant Projects and Tri An Hydropower Expansion Project were not completed on schedule. In addition, the selection of investors for power projects using liquefied gas was very slow.

Therefore, the Government leaders requested ministries, branches and localities to resolve problems within their authority, speed up progress and avoid delays. Ministries and branches need to review the implementation plan of Resolution 70, urgently select investors for gas-fired power projects such as Nghi Son, Ca Na, Quynh Lap in the fourth quarter; request assigned investors to make specific plans, report to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for monitoring and urging.
The Deputy Prime Minister also requested localities to increase human resources for compensation and site clearance work to avoid disruption, especially in Dong Nai; a working group can be set up to resolve the issue once and for all.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade is assigned to support, supervise, and add important power projects to Power Plan 8, complete the Steering Committee in October, and develop a mechanism to strictly handle investors who are slow to implement.
Regarding the Blue Whale gas project chain, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son proposed setting up a working group with ExxonMobil to agree on an implementation plan and complete it in October.
