At 8pm, the open lab at the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City, is still lit. More than 10 students are still engrossed in their research. Some are programming, some are assembling circuits, some are cutting things… the students are chatting happily as they work.

Associate Professor - Dr. Nguyen Truong Thinh checks the progress of students' projects
Looking at the two first-year students sitting at the back of the room, Associate Professor – Dr. Nguyen Truong Thinh, Institute of Intelligent and Interactive Technology, said that in a few days these two students will bring their water puppet robot to Hanoi to perform on national television.
According to Mr. Thinh, the open laboratory was established to serve scientific research for students of the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City. The room is open 24/7, 7 days a week. Students do not need to register in advance, can freely research, with no limit on the topics and the number of participants.

Open lab filled with laughter
The school is equipped with modern machinery and equipment for research on technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI). In addition, there is a manufacturing workshop in District 8 to serve large-scale research projects of students.
Not only has it become the "home" of students from Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, some international students also choose this open laboratory as a place to research and carry out their internship projects.
"The lab regularly welcomes international student groups to visit. Last year, a group of Australian and American students came to do research and practice. The group carried out a project to build a bird's nest harvesting system. The lab is not only "open" in terms of time but also "open" in terms of research subjects. "Opening" to students from other schools and international students to do research is a way to create a diverse, professional environment, an opportunity for the school's students to access more diverse knowledge" - Associate Professor - Dr. Thinh said.

The piano-playing robot is a new research project by student Huynh Minh Thuan.

Although it was past 20 o'clock, the lecturers and students were still engrossed in their research.
Dao Minh Duyen, a student majoring in robotics and artificial intelligence at the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City, said she has completed four research projects at the open lab.
"Although I am a first-year student, I have received enthusiastic support from my teachers. In addition to providing facilities, the teachers also guide and give me advice on every step so that my projects can achieve the best results" - Duyen shared.
In addition, depending on the registered topic and the ability to implement, the school will have an appropriate level of research support, contributing to motivating students. After researching, students can completely bring their projects to participate in competitions, "advertise" to businesses, participate in exhibitions at major student festivals.
