In the digital age, culture is more important than ever.

That is the opinion of Dr. Ho Quoc Hung, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Head of the Literature Department, Van Lang University at the exchange session "Random thoughts on Vietnamese culture". The event was co-organized by the Vietnamese Knowledge Group and Living Together happily on the morning of October 12 in Ho Chi Minh City.

In the digital age, national culture is facing many opportunities for development but also many challenges. Digital technology contributes to promoting Vietnamese culture to the world, bringing traditional values ​​closer to young people. However, along with that spread comes the risk of fading identity, when foreign lifestyles, languages ​​and aesthetics increasingly have a strong influence.

Cultural researcher Ho Quoc Hung said: If young people abuse digital technology and artificial intelligence, they will easily fall into a state of "paralysis" of thinking ability, and will not be able to think of anything without the support of the internet. Young people are easily caught up in online trends, moving away from traditional cultural values ​​and typical Vietnamese beauty in behavior and dress, and instead, they tend to be hybrid and "slaves" of digital technology.

When the “flat world ” is expanding strongly as it is today, culture must always move, absorbing the quintessence of humanity. However, that process must be selective and adaptive, meaning that only appropriate elements are retained, contributing to enriching national identity, without losing the roots and soul of traditional culture.

“In the digital age, culture is even more important. Young people need to be brave enough not to be “slaves” to artificial intelligence (AI). Because AI is a technology created by humans, AI information belongs to humans, serving human life. Culture is the thread that connects people to their roots and to each other in a volatile world,” Dr. Ho Quoc Hung emphasized.

It is a tool for people to work more effectively, communicate faster, and it is not at fault in the story of culture. The important thing is that each of us must maintain the position of "boss" when using it, knowing how to select and absorb the quintessence of culture and human knowledge to perfect our personal identity and create soft power in the digital age.

Each of us should preserve Vietnamese identity through small daily actions such as preserving the purity of the Vietnamese language, preserving good customs and practices, respecting cultural heritages and historical relics...
