According to reports, after lunch on December 21st, many students from Dien Bien 1 Primary School experienced symptoms of abdominal pain and nausea, and were taken to hospitals in Thanh Hoa City for treatment. Dr. Le Tien Toan, Director of Thanh Hoa City General Hospital, said the hospital received 12 students from Dien Bien 1 Primary School. The children were admitted with symptoms of abdominal pain, diarrhea, and fever. The initial diagnosis was: "Food poisoning due to bacteria, undetermined."
According to data from the two hospitals caring for the students, the number of students hospitalized for inpatient treatment is 18; this figure does not include students who received examinations and treatment at other medical facilities or who self-treated at home.

Authorities have not yet concluded the cause of the stomachaches experienced by many students who were hospitalized after lunch at Dien Bien 1 Primary School.
However, the incident didn't end there, as many parents angrily reported finding green mold on the potatoes. According to photos of the children's afternoon snack menu on December 26th, the potatoes showed significant signs of green mold. Parents immediately lodged a complaint with the relevant authorities regarding the ingredients that appeared to be unsafe for consumption.

Following feedback from parents, the school changed the afternoon snack menu on Tuesday (December 26th). The sweet potato dessert was replaced with meat porridge.

Following the incident, parent LTT stated: "On the afternoon of December 26th, representatives from the school and the food supplier for the boarding program visited and offered support to the family whose child, including my child, had stomach pain, diarrhea, and fever and had to be hospitalized for treatment."
Currently, most students who experienced diarrhea, stomach pain, and fever have recovered and returned to school. According to Mr. Tran Van Thuc, Director of the Thanh Hoa Department of Education and Training, the incident is currently being investigated and handled by the relevant authorities. The Department of Education and Training is awaiting the report on the results.
