Women should know how to leverage technology and social media channels to build their personal image and expand their opportunities for self-development.

That's the view shared by Ms. Le Phuong Ha, Deputy Director of the Institute for Digital Transformation Strategy, with the World and Vietnam Newspaper on Vietnamese Women's Day (October 20).

With the rapid changes in society, how has the role of modern women transformed? What are the main factors influencing this change?

As society develops, women become more independent and assert their role as active participants. We see the presence and active participation of many exceptionally talented women in various positions and fields, thanks to their improved awareness and access to information and knowledge.

Furthermore, with the support of networks and technology platforms, we can work more mobile, flexibly, proactively, and interact more effectively. This is also one of the factors that gives women more opportunities in life and work.

In the current context, what opportunities do women have for personal and career development? What challenges do they face, particularly in balancing work and family life?

According to the CSCI approach that our Institute for Digital Transformation Strategy is implementing, alongside opportunities, we replace the word "threats" with "solutions." That is, instead of using the SWOT matrix, we have SWOS, because when we see an opportunity, we need to find solutions based on the goals we want to achieve, in order to seize that opportunity, rather than viewing it as a challenge.

So what opportunities are there for women in the current context? Firstly, the flexibility in current work methods allows women to participate in work and social activities more easily and flexibly. Secondly, gender equality and awareness of gender roles in the workplace are improving. Thirdly, the gap in capabilities between men and women is narrowing as new societal competencies increasingly rely less on physical and physiological factors and more on thinking and adaptability.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution creates new opportunities for women, but also poses many challenges. Could you share some of the positive and negative impacts of technology on women?

Undeniably, technology has given women more opportunities for career development, education, and social connection. Today, many women can multitask, even working in diverse fields, depending on their ability to leverage technology and manage their time effectively.

Through the media and social networks, the image and status of women have been better strengthened in society. This is a significant difference from previous societies, where women often played the role of the support system, the "silent figures" behind the men.

However, every issue has "two sides to the coin." Society develops thanks to the daily changes in technology, as it has overcome barriers of space and time. Because of this, it also brings risks of privacy violations for everyone. For women, especially mothers, they face challenges in raising children that were rarely encountered in society before, often leaving them feeling confused and overwhelmed.

Therefore, women today need to be much more assertive, always proactive, and prepared for the negative impacts of society, while also promoting integration through connections and social media.

Policies play a crucial role in supporting women's development. What specific policies are needed to create more favorable conditions for women to participate in social and economic activities, Madam?

Once again, I would like to reaffirm that the opportunities for women's development today are immense. To support women in seizing these opportunities, different groups and regions will require specific, appropriate policies, but these should ultimately focus on a few key objectives:

Firstly, the policies and programs implemented need to promote women's participation in social transformation processes through legitimate organizations and activities.

Secondly, actively promote and disseminate opportunities for women to participate in social activities through media and networking platforms.

Thirdly, promoting gender equality and the rights and responsibilities in co-parenting children and family life is especially important to me, as the family is the foundation of society. Therefore, only when women have the support and companionship of their families can they fully develop their potential and achieve career success.

Given current trends, what does she predict the future of women will be like in the next 10 years? What skills and qualities will help them succeed in the future?

I've observed that, even now, despite the many changes in society, Vietnamese women have always retained their inherent traditional beauty, but have become more independent and self-reliant in both thought and action.

However, as science and technology develop rapidly, society demands high-quality, skilled, and highly specialized workers to meet this pace of development. This is also one of the bottlenecks that will cause the workforce in the next few years to be both oversupplied (in terms of cheap labor) and undersupplied (in terms of highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals).

Furthermore, we cannot be complacent about the next 10 years, as social influences are likely to lead to changes in thinking about marriage and family, especially among women.

Therefore, to adapt to this development process, women need to strengthen and enhance their professional skills, as well as cultivate keen emotional intelligence (EQ), helping them assert their position, status, and role in society.

In the digital age, what role do social media channels play in shaping women's personal image, from your perspective?

Previously, we might have thought that building a personal brand was something distant, pretentious, or even ostentatious. But that's not entirely true. The way we live, not just exist; the way we contribute, not just work; and the way we love, not just love, will create a unique self, a personal brand for that individual.

In the digital age, with the explosion of information technology and social media, where we can easily gain recognition, the question of how to build a personal brand so that we don't get lost in that vast world is not an easy one to answer.

Today, knowing how to leverage social media channels to build a personal image for women is extremely important. It is a good means for women to learn, share, and connect with friends, as well as build their personal profiles for career development, thereby expanding opportunities in socio-economic activities.

Thank you, ma'am!
