Military women spread the spirit of gratitude

On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 / July 27, 2025), the Military Women's Committee coordinated with the Political Department of Military Region 9 to organize a journey to pay tribute to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and Heroic Martyrs in the provinces of the Southwest. This is not only a regular working trip but also a special occasion for female cadres and members in the army to revisit history with all their hearts - through "red addresses", stories imbued with sacrifice, ideals and loyalty of revolutionary women.

Journey to the source

During 4 days and 3 nights, the delegation visited and offered incense at 4 places associated with typical female heroes in the resistance war: the memorial site of female general Nguyen Thi Dinh and the relic site of Nguyen Thi Ut - Chi Ut Tich (Vinh Long province); the memorial site of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thap (Dong Thap); and the relic site of Ms. Phan Thi Rang - Chi Su ( An Giang ). Each place the delegation visited not only aroused emotions and pride, but also reminded today's generation of the value of patriotism and the tireless dedication of Vietnamese women.

Arriving at the memorial site of female general Nguyen Thi Dinh ( Vinh Long ) - the founder of the "Long-haired Army" and the first female general of the Vietnam People's Army, the delegation respectfully offered incense in memory and listened to stories about the blazing Dong Khoi period. In a solemn space, artifacts and images vividly recreated the portrait and temperament of a loyal, intelligent, exemplary woman of the Southern revolutionary movement.

In Dong Thap , the delegation visited the memorial site of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thap, the first woman to be awarded the Gold Star Medal by the State. The images of her “dressed in ao ba ba, barefoot” through the stages from the grassroots to when she held the important position of President of the Vietnam Women’s Union left many emotions. A simple life but full of dedication.

The delegation took a souvenir photo at the statue of "Mother holding a gun" - Heroine martyr Nguyen Thi Ut (Vinh Long), showing the mother's advice to her children before going to the battlefield.

On that journey, the memorial site of Nguyen Thi Ut - Ms. Ut Tich (Vinh Long) is like a profound stop. "Even if the hem of the pants is still there, I will fight!" is a famous saying through many generations. She is a symbol of the spirit of not giving up in the face of hardship. From a poor woman, a servant, she rose to become a brave female guerrilla. The memories of her are told by the locals with all the closeness and familiarity, as if talking about a relative in the family.

At the Ba Hon relic site (An Giang), where the sacrifice of Ms. Phan Thi Rang - Ms. Su was marked, the atmosphere seemed to be heavy. The resilient daughter of Hon Dat, despite her young age, still steadfastly maintained her revolutionary ideals despite being brutally tortured by the enemy. The stone statue of Ms. Su in the sunlight appeared tragic. Many women in the group silently shed tears. Perhaps because in the image of that heroine, they saw themselves - a part of the spirit of Vietnamese women: loyal, indomitable, never retreating in the face of difficulties.

Spread the love

Not only stopping at memorial activities, the working trip was also an opportunity to spread the spirit of humanity and deep affection between the army and the people. The Women's Committee of the Army and the Political Department of Military Region 9 organized the presentation of more than 400 gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and families with meritorious services in the localities the delegation passed through. Along with that, the Political Department of Military Region 9 supported the construction of 3 "Border Warm Houses" for women members with difficult housing circumstances in Tan Hong commune (Dong Thap), Giang Thanh and Nhon Hoi communes (An Giang) with a total value of hundreds of millions of VND.

At the gift-giving locations, Colonel Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, Head of the Military Women's Committee, expressed: Each gift given carries the full attention, thoughtfulness and sincere feelings of the soldiers and the Military Women's Committee officers. Generations of Vietnamese people will forever remember and deeply express their gratitude to the heroic martyrs, wounded soldiers, those who have contributed to the revolution, and the families who have sacrificed their loved ones for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for the happiness of the people.

Colonel Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, Head of the Military Women's Committee, presented gifts of gratitude to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and families with meritorious services in difficult circumstances.

The handshakes, emotional eyes, and sincere thanks from the people spoke for the loyal bond between the soldiers and the people. An elderly woman emotionally said: “It’s not because of the amount of gifts, but because the soldiers still remember us. Remember those who are still here…”

At the end of the trip, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thi Thuy Lien, Women's Assistant, Mass Affairs Department, Political Department of Military Region 9 shared: "Each gift, each house built is a message of sharing, a way to continue the tradition of mutual love of Uncle Ho's soldiers."

For many officers and members of the Women's Union of the Army, this trip is not only a professional experience, but also an opportunity to learn more deeply about the contributions of women in the resistance war, in the cause of building and preserving the country.

Returning from a business trip is an unforgettable spiritual milestone for me. I carry in my heart not only memories, but also faith, gratitude, and the responsibility to continue the glorious tradition of the previous generation.

4 locations - 4 female heroes - more than 400 gifts - 3 border shelters. These are telling numbers, crystallizing a journey of gratitude, continuity and belief in the strength of women in the Vietnam People's Army today.
