In Phu Yen province, a working delegation of the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee recently had a working session with the Phu Yen Provincial People's Committee on investing in and upgrading National Highway 29.
At the meeting, the leaders of the People's Committees of Phu Yen and Dak Lak provinces agreed to prioritize the proposal to the central government to consider and approve the investment policy to upgrade and expand National Highway 29. Specifically, the section from Km 31+300 (intersection with National Highway 1, Dong Hoa town, Phu Yen province) to Km 178+062 (intersection with National Highway 14 in Buon Ho town, Dak Lak province) with a total route length of 146.76 km. The investment scale is a grade III road, with a scale of 4 lanes, a roadbed width of 20.5 m, and a speed of 60 - 80 km/h.
When upgraded and expanded, National Highway 29 will create favorable conditions for people to travel, trade goods, and promote socio -economic development of the two localities.
According to Mr. Le Tan Ho, Vice Chairman of Phu Yen Provincial People's Committee, the upgrading of National Highway 29 is of great significance in connecting and promoting the potential advantages of the two provinces and the Central Highlands provinces. However, the proposed plan must be built on the basis of being suitable for the resources of the central government and the province at the present time; suitable for the actual needs of the locality in each period...
Currently, National Highway 29 is 293 km long; starting at Vung Ro port (Phu Yen province) and ending at Dak Rue border gate (Dak Lak province).

This is a traffic route connecting the Central Coast region (Phu Yen province) with the Central Highlands (Dak Lak province); this connecting route passes through the Southern Phu Yen Economic Zone; connecting seaports, dry ports, airports, railways, and border gates in the Cambodia - Laos - Vietnam development triangle area.
Although it is the main national highway in the Central and Central Highlands regions, National Highway 29 currently has a narrow road surface width (from 5.5 m to 16 m), has been invested and put into use for a long time, the road surface structure is asphalt concrete and asphalted gravel. The road is narrow but the traffic volume on the route is increasing rapidly, not meeting the demand for transporting passengers and large volumes of goods along the East-West economic corridor.
At the online meeting on the results of the implementation of the plan to complete 3,000 km of expressway by the end of 2025 on March 29, 2025, Mr. Truong Cong Thai, Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, proposed that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh consider and approve the investment policy to upgrade and renovate National Highway 29 connecting Dak Lak province with Phu Yen. The proposed plan of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee is about 180 km long, with an estimated total investment of more than 10,000 billion VND, and a scale of 4 lanes.
