Connecting to form a modern development ecosystem.

Long Thanh urban area, centered around Long Thanh ward, boasts a strategically important geographical location in the heart of the Southern key economic region, approximately 40km east of Ho Chi Minh City. It is also adjacent to dynamic industrial areas such as Nhon Trach and the industrial and port area of Ba Ria - Vung Tau. This location provides favorable conditions for Long Thanh to play its role as a gateway, a connecting center, and a driving force for urban development in the region.

More importantly, with the Long Thanh Airport under construction in the area, Long Thanh ward has a significant advantage for future development. In the planning of Dong Nai city, to fully exploit and maximize the advantages of Long Thanh Airport, the city is developing a plan for the development of a Long Thanh Airport urban model and a free trade zone (FTZ) associated with the airport.

According to Nguyen Kim Long, Standing Committee Member of the Dong Nai City Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai City People's Committee, Long Thanh is a hub for significant national and city-level development, notably Long Thanh Airport and numerous strategic transportation infrastructure projects such as the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, high-speed railway, and ring roads connecting to the largest economic development center, Ho Chi Minh City, as well as emerging urban areas, industrial zones, and modern commercial and service centers. These key projects will create new development opportunities, promote economic restructuring, increase investment attraction, improve the quality of life for residents, and transform Long Thanh into a crucial growth pole for Dong Nai in the future.

Speaking at a meeting with the Standing Committee of the Dong Nai City Party Committee on May 18th, General Secretary and President To Lam proposed that Long Thanh, with its existing industrial system, logistics network, gateway location, and new urban space, must be connected into a modern development ecosystem, with high-tech industries, aviation services, forming a high-value service ecosystem, supporting industries, digital economy, green economy, and high-tech agriculture as pillars. “From Long Thanh, an ecosystem encompassing airport city, aviation services, trade, finance, conferences, exhibitions, training, healthcare, tourism, and other high-quality services must be formed,” General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized.

Dong Nai City, in coordination with ministries and agencies, is ensuring the progress of Long Thanh Airport Phase 2, the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau railway, airport connecting routes, and inter-regional infrastructure. Long Thanh must be placed within a network connecting with Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, the Mekong Delta, the Central Highlands, the South Central Coast, and the cross-border economic corridor, to become a real driving force for development.

Creating a professional management model

From a rural commune, Long Thanh has undergone a remarkable transformation, demonstrating great resilience and determination. Officially becoming a ward on April 30, 2026, Long Thanh has become an urban administrative unit within the region, carrying with it great expectations for a modern, civilized, and integrated future.

According to Le Hoang Son, Chairman of the Long Thanh Ward People's Committee, Long Thanh becoming a ward is not just a change in name, but an elevation in status, responsibility, and ability to serve the people. "Long Thanh is no longer a 'commune' with a traditional rural management model, but an urban ward, demanding professionalism, coordination, and a people-centered approach in all decisions," Mr. Son shared.

According to Mr. Son, with its new role, Long Thanh ward also faces major challenges such as: pressure from rapidly increasing population due to migration and labor serving Long Thanh Airport; higher demands on urban management, traffic, environment, order, safety and digital infrastructure; the need for high-quality human resources with skills to serve a modern urban environment; and the need to balance economic development and the preservation of traditional cultural values.

To maximize its potential and advantages, and overcome challenges, Long Thanh ward has identified one of its key tasks for the coming period as building a smart urban government that serves the people, using citizen satisfaction as a measure of effectiveness.

Simultaneously, continue to invest in the comprehensive development of urban infrastructure such as transportation, water supply and drainage, parks, community centers, digital infrastructure, and security and order. Promote investment attraction based on the airport city model, prioritizing high value-added service sectors such as logistics, trade and services, tourism, and the development of smart urban areas; combine this with the development of free trade zones to optimize the advantages of Long Thanh Airport.

In addition, the locality also invests in developing education, training, and healthcare in a modern direction, meeting the demand for high-quality human resources. It promotes sustainable development based on environmental protection, using the values of "green, clean, safe, and civilized" as a guiding principle for urbanization and socio-economic development in the locality.
