Speaking at the conference, Mr. Do Tien Sy, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, and Director General of the Voice of Vietnam Radio , stated that the digital age is creating profound changes for journalism and media, with Vietnamese radio podcasts emerging as an inevitable trend.

According to Mr. Do Tien Sy, the development of digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and big data has fundamentally changed the way content is produced, distributed, and received. Broadcasting is no longer confined to traditional radio equipment but has expanded strongly to digital platforms, mobile devices, and smart applications.

In this context, Vietnamese radio podcasts enable the public to proactively choose content and listening times, while also fostering two-way interaction and personalized experiences. This also serves as a driving force for media organizations to innovate and adapt for sustainable development.

Notably, for the first time in 17 editions, the National Radio Festival included podcasts as an official competition category. Out of a total of 343 entries, 97 were podcasts, demonstrating the rapid growth of Vietnamese radio podcasts and their emergence as a prominent trend in audio journalism.

"Podcasting is no longer a trendy concept but has become an action, a driving force for the modernization of radio broadcasting, opening up new creative spaces," affirmed Mr. Do Tien Sy.

At the conference, presentations focused on two main themes: podcast development trends and international experiences. Many international experts shared successful models, methods of organizing production and distribution of content, and effective podcast market exploitation.

Andrew William Ronald Davies, Head of Broadcasting at the Asia- Pacific Broadcasting Association, stated that podcasts have a significant advantage over traditional radio in that listeners can choose content according to their needs, enjoy flexible durations, and are not limited by broadcast schedules.

Meanwhile, Justine Anne Kelly, Head of Content and Audio Strategy at ABC, shared experiences from international media organizations in developing Vietnamese radio podcasts to reach younger audiences and communities with distinct interests.

According to figures presented at the conference, by 2026, there will be approximately 600 million podcast listeners globally, with over 4.5 million programs currently in production. Podcast advertising revenue is projected to reach around $5 billion, demonstrating the enormous economic potential of this sector.

Experts also recommend that, in order to develop Vietnamese radio podcasts, media organizations should leverage existing resources, build dedicated teams, select content that suits their strengths, and boost distribution on digital platforms.

Converting traditional radio programs to podcast format, shortening their duration, increasing flexibility, and personalizing content is seen as an effective way to attract audiences in the digital environment.
