Speaking to reporters at a meeting with EC President Ursula von der Leyen, Magyar said the agreement would allow Budapest access to funds that had been frozen for years due to disagreements between the EU and the previous administration regarding the rule of law and anti-corruption issues. According to Von der Leyen, the EC will disburse 10 billion euros from the EU's Post-Pandemic Recovery and Resilience Fund. In addition, Hungary will receive an extra 4.2 billion euros and 2.2 billion euros from the bloc's associated funds.
Appreciating the reform steps taken by the new Hungarian government , Ms. Von der Leyen stated that Budapest has made significant progress in meeting EU requirements.
For his part, Prime Minister Magyar affirmed that the government had made efforts to ensure full access to the support funds. According to Magyar, an amount equivalent to approximately 13% of Hungary's gross domestic product (GDP) will be used for infrastructure projects, education , healthcare, and business support. However, Budapest still has to fulfill the reform conditions set by the EU before the disbursement process can be completed.

Regarding Ukraine's EU accession process, Mr. Magyar affirmed that the disbursement of funds to Hungary is unrelated to Budapest's position on Kyiv's accession negotiations. He stated that Hungary still hopes to reach an agreement with Ukraine on issues related to the educational and linguistic rights of the Hungarian community in the country.
The agreement is seen as a significant step in efforts to improve relations between Hungary and the EU after years of disagreement, while also providing Budapest with additional resources to boost economic growth and modernize its infrastructure.
