Improving lives through access to clean water.
We arrived at Dai Thanh village, Ham Kiem commune, at a time when the first rains of the season had begun to fall regularly, relieving the intense heat of the peak of the dry season. Mr. Le Thanh Dung, the village Party Secretary, happily shared: "This village is located in the old Muong Man area, which used to be one of the areas facing difficulties with access to clean water. But now, thanks to the clean water system extended to the village, the lives of Mr. Dung's family as well as the villagers have improved significantly."
According to Mr. Dung, the village has over 400 households. During the recent dry season, about 80% of households received clean water, ensuring their daily needs were met. The remaining areas, where households are scattered and far from the center, do not yet have access to water pipes and are still using well water.
Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, Head of the Nam Phan Water Supply Cluster (Provincial Center for Clean Water and Environmental Sanitation), stated: The Nam Phan Water Supply Cluster manages the areas of Ham Thanh, Ham Kiem, and Tuyen Quang communes. The cluster has coordinated the construction and connection of water regulation pipelines, overcoming the shortage of domestic water during the dry season in the communes under its management. The water supply capacity at some points of the water supply facilities (WTPs) in Ham Kiem is 2,300 m³ /day; Muong Man WTP 1,500 m³ /day; Ba Bau WTP has a capacity of 4,180 m³ /day... basically ensuring the domestic water needs of the people, especially during the peak of the recent hot season. By the end of May 2026, the cluster had supported water regulation for high-altitude and remote areas, ensuring 95% of the water supply for all WTPs in the cluster, preventing prolonged water outages.

Regulate water supply appropriately.
At a recent meeting on dry season water supply issues organized by the Department of Agriculture and Environment in the eastern region, Mr. Luong Dang Khanh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Center for Clean Water and Environmental Sanitation, stated: Since the beginning of the year, the weather has remained unfavorable, especially with prolonged periods of hot weather. However, thanks to good preparation, the situation regarding domestic water supply at most industrial parks managed by the center has been favorable. The raw water supply provided by Binh Thuan and Dak Nong Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited to the 19 industrial parks under the center's management, for which the needs for 2026 have been registered, is basically ensured.
In the coming period, to ensure the supply of clean water for the people, the unit will continue to proactively inspect and maintain equipment and pipelines to prevent technical incidents that could interrupt water supply. Furthermore, it will organize 24/7 on-call duty and regulate water supply by route or area according to the actual situation to meet the water needs of the people.
Also at this meeting, Mr. Nguyen Ha Loc, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, suggested that in the future, the center should closely coordinate with Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited to use irrigation and hydropower water resources economically and efficiently. The goal is to ensure sufficient raw water to serve the operation of centralized water supply systems in rural areas to produce clean water for people's daily lives. He particularly emphasized the importance of managing and operating to ensure rural water supply, preventing people from experiencing water shortages in areas with water supply systems.
The Provincial Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Center is currently managing and operating 57 centralized water treatment plants (WTPs). Through these plants, it provides clean water to over 94,000 households in the eastern and western parts of the province. Of these, 19 WTPs utilize raw water from irrigation systems, 12 utilize surface water from rivers, streams, creeks, and natural ponds; 17 utilize groundwater, 4 utilize clean water from other WTPs, and 5 plants are inactive awaiting liquidation (in the western region).
