The atmosphere of gratitude was solemn and warm.

In recent days, despite the rain, the atmosphere of gratitude in Quang Bi commune remained solemn and warm. At the five martyrs' cemeteries in the area, youth union members in their green volunteer uniforms, along with militia members, diligently completed tasks such as weeding, whitewashing, and placing national flags in front of the graves of the heroic martyrs. These were small tasks, but they were carried out with reverence and a high sense of responsibility.
Speaking with reporters, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Bi commune, To Thi Dao, shared: "We believe that caring for those who have rendered meritorious service is not only a responsibility but also a command from the heart. These small but meaningful acts on this occasion help the present generation understand, remember, and be grateful to the previous generation."

In fact, from July 21st to the present, Quang Bi commune has implemented many "Gratitude and Remembrance" activities such as: providing free medical examinations, health consultations, and medicine to over 200 people with meritorious service at 4 examination points in the area. Associations, organizations, and businesses have organized visits and presented 50 gifts to wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and relatives of martyrs; of which the commune's youth union presented 22 gifts and organized "Meals of Compassion" at 3 exemplary policy beneficiary families. Cadres, Party members, and people in the commune have contributed nearly 200 million VND to the Gratitude and Remembrance Fund for 2025, and this meaningful activity is still being implemented at the village level.
The commune is actively assigning relevant departments to meticulously prepare for a meeting and gift-giving ceremony for 186 policy beneficiaries and meritorious individuals in the area, scheduled for the morning of July 26th. Simultaneously, the commune's Youth Union is actively preparing for the Candlelight Ceremony of Gratitude on the evening of July 26th. More than just a memorial ritual, this is also an activity for the younger generation to experience a sacred atmosphere, to remember and stand up to continue the legacy. The commune leaders have formed five delegations to offer incense and participate in the Candlelight Ceremony of Gratitude at the commune's five cemeteries.
Nguyen Thi Hai Yen, Secretary of the Youth Union of Quang Bi commune, shared: “Our young generation will never forget the blood and sacrifices of the heroic martyrs. The upcoming candle of gratitude is not only a light of remembrance, but also a reminder of our responsibility – to continue the ideals and live worthy of the sacrifices of our forefathers.”
Preserving and spreading traditions

Along with activities to express gratitude, Quang Bi commune pays special attention to the full and timely implementation of preferential policies for people with meritorious services. According to Ms. To Thi Dao, as of the end of June 2025, the commune is managing and paying monthly allowances to 653 people with meritorious services with a total budget of nearly 2 billion VND/month. In the past year, the commune also provided convalescence care for 434 cases, supported visits to martyrs' graves, paid funeral allowances, and issued/replaced documents and health insurance cards in accordance with regulations.
Through social mobilization and community fundraising, the local government and organizations have distributed over 226 gifts to war veterans and martyrs' relatives in difficult circumstances, worth over 108 million VND. Of these, the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune provided 30 cash and in-kind gifts. Other associations and organizations coordinated to distribute over 70 gifts. On this occasion, the commune also organized a meeting and presented gifts to 186 exemplary war veterans.
In particular, the locality is accelerating the construction and renovation of 28 houses for people with meritorious service and relatives of martyrs, including 16 new houses and 12 renovated houses under a support project from Hanoi city. As a result, to date, the commune no longer has any households of people with meritorious service classified as poor or near-poor, and 100% of households have a stable standard of living, equal to or higher than the average standard of living in their place of residence.
Recognizing that the "Gratitude and Repayment" work is a regular and long-term task, Quang Bi commune continues to widely disseminate information within the community, especially to the younger generation, about the moral value of "Drinking water, remembering the source." Along with replicating successful economic models among families of policy beneficiaries, the commune will strengthen the recognition and honoring of exemplary collectives and individuals who have done well in the work of showing gratitude.
With a systematic and compassionate approach, and by leveraging the role of the entire political system, Quang Bi commune is gradually improving the quality of life for those who have rendered meritorious services, strongly spreading profound humanistic values through acts of gratitude, not only on commemorative days but also becoming a regular cultural tradition in community life.
