Improving logistics infrastructure
According to Mr. Huong Van Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, improving logistics infrastructure is of paramount importance and is identified as one of the key tasks in the local socio -economic development, creating leverage for trade, services, and goods exports, and increasing the competitiveness of the province's products.
In recent years, Quang Nam has made concerted efforts to research and implement various solutions to modernize logistics activities in order to promote import and export trade, such as promoting investment in Chu Lai airport to meet international airport standards with a scale of level 4F, and planning the dredging of Quang Nam seaport to meet Class I standards to receive ships up to 500,000 tons.
Investing in the Nam Giang Border Economic Zone with the Nam Giang - Dak Ta Ooc international border gate; repairing National Highway 14D connecting to the Nam Giang international border gate, and developing the East-West economic corridor.
Many national and provincial roads connecting functional zones and concentrated production areas have been upgraded and expanded, including inland waterways, creating favorable conditions for businesses to boost import and export activities.
As of June 2024, the province had approximately 200 businesses engaged in import and export activities, most of which achieved quite positive results.
During the period 2021-2023, Quang Nam's total import and export turnover reached 13.3 billion USD. In the first five months of 2024 alone, import and export turnover reached 1.5 billion USD, an increase of 10% compared to the same period last year.
The main export items include processed garments, shoes, electronic chips, construction materials, etc. The main import items are automotive components, electronic components, raw materials for ceramic tile production, electricity, machinery and equipment, and imported raw materials and components for the production of export goods.
According to Mr. Vo Van Khanh, representative of the Vietnam E-commerce Association in the Central and Central Highlands regions, connecting and cooperating with provinces and cities in the Central and Central Highlands regions, Southern Laos, and Northeastern Thailand will open up opportunities for development in trade, tourism , attracting investment, forming economic zones, and promoting local socio-economic development. Quang Nam, with its advantages, can benefit greatly from this.
Therefore, it is necessary to focus on improving logistics infrastructure, providing professional logistics solutions, and combining multiple modes of transport. Simultaneously, strengthening supply chains and logistics operations, promoting multi-channel sales, adopting new e-commerce models, developing supply chains, and providing trade connections for various sources of goods (including traditional and cross-border e-commerce); supporting training for small businesses to open stores on e-commerce platforms such as TikTok and Shopee... will yield certain positive results.
Interregional connectivity
With its well-developed highway system, deep-water seaports, and airports, Quang Nam is considered a convenient gateway to the sea for goods from the Central Highlands provinces and beyond via the East-West Economic Corridor. This provides advantages for developing Quang Nam into a major maritime transport center and an important logistics hub in the region.

At the Central Region Trade Promotion and Import-Export Development Conference held last weekend in Da Nang City, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang acknowledged that the Central region plays a crucial role in economic development, especially the marine economy.
In 2023, the region's economic growth rate reached 5.51%, higher than the national average, and its economic size exceeded 1,570 trillion VND (accounting for 15.06% of the national GDP).
With import and export turnover reaching over 46.7 billion USD (export turnover exceeding 22 billion USD, import turnover nearly 24.7 billion USD), Thanh Hoa is the leading locality in the region in terms of import and export turnover, followed by Quang Ngai, Ha Tinh, Quang Nam, Khanh Hoa, etc.
Some of the region's key development sectors include semiconductor industry, chip manufacturing and design, coastal industries, marine tourism, and maritime economy… These are advantages that Quang Nam can capitalize on.
In recent times, besides strengthening linkages, Quang Nam has also issued many policies to support, encourage, and attract reputable corporations and businesses with capabilities and experience to invest and develop, especially in logistics infrastructure; diversify markets and supply chains, boost exports, and create sources of goods and markets, as well as space for the development of logistics services.
In particular, developing high-quality human resources that meet international standards; strengthening innovation in trade and investment promotion, connecting supply and demand in both domestic and international markets; effectively exploiting the free trade agreements that Vietnam has signed…
According to Mr. Huong Van Minh, regional linkages in trade and import-export activities always play an important role. However, these linkages also require coordination among many relevant departments and agencies, such as modernizing customs operations, widely applying electronic customs procedures, implementing the national single window mechanism, and the ASEAN single window mechanism, to help speed up transportation and delivery.
Promoting administrative procedure reform, encouraging innovation and digital transformation programs, and the digital economy to meet the requirements of service, trade, and logistics development in the new situation…
