Quyền Linh recounts a time when he was "poorer than the word poor," and even starring in famous films didn't earn enough money to live on.

Despite being a movie star, he's heavily in debt.
Once a familiar face on the stage, in television and film, Quyền Linh said he once lived fully with his passion for art, traveling to film sets from north to south. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Quyền Linh's name was widely known through a series of famous works such as "Blood Money," "Transition," and "Trùng Quang Tâm Sử"... He was loved by audiences for his down-to-earth, simple image and emotionally rich acting style. At that time, Quyền Linh was considered one of the most prominent faces of Vietnamese cinema.
Quyền Linh admitted that during that period, he was considered a movie star but his finances were extremely tight, which, according to the actor, was "poorer than the word poor itself." He recounted that he used to ride an old, severely dilapidated Vespa, requiring a long kick-start to get it running. Sometimes, while riding, the side panels of the scooter would suddenly fall off onto the road, and he himself would be drenched in sweat because the scooter frequently stalled, forcing him to constantly kick-start, push, and repair it in the middle of the road.

Quyền Linh shared his experiences about his career journey in the program "Time, Oh Time" - produced by Nguyen Dinh Chieu Film Studio.

According to Quyền Linh, at that time, television dramas or state-produced films were mainly made with dedication and love for the profession, while actors' salaries were very low. Some films lasted for many months, even more than a year, but the income received was negligible. Many film crews even faced funding shortages, leaving actors and crew members unpaid after the film was completed.
"Life back then was completely the opposite of the glamorous image on screen. In the film, I appeared as a movie star, but when I returned to real life, I was constantly worried about rent, gas, food... At that time, the worry about making ends meet was always on my mind. Back then, I borrowed money from the director to the sound engineers, lighting technicians, cinematographers, and costume designers. I borrowed from anyone I could," he shared.
The actor from the TV series "Blood Money" revealed that during those years, he lived in Ho Chi Minh City without family, a home, or any support. He had to fend for himself. Therefore, despite his love for acting, he constantly thought about finding another job to ensure his long-term survival. The actor confided that he worried a lot about the future: where would the money come from to live, where would the money come from to start a family, where would the money come from to care for his wife and children, and where would the money come from to support his parents back home? He recounted that his dream was so simple: just having a small house of a few square meters, enough for him, his wife, and a child to live in, with space for a motorbike, would have been enough to make him happy. "But that dream almost faded from my mind; the more I thought about it, the less I realized it," the actor confessed.
While his wife owns a car and a house, Quyen Linh has almost nothing.
A major turning point in Quyền Linh's life came in 2005, when he unexpectedly found his calling as a television presenter. The artist said the opportunity came from a suggestion by director Xuân Cường, who invited him to try his hand at being an MC. At that time, Quyền Linh didn't think he was suited for the job. He admitted that he had never received any training in presenting skills and didn't even understand the concept of "MC." For him, switching to a completely new field at that time seemed more like a gamble than a carefully considered choice.

The male MC revealed that his wife is his biggest support, both financially and emotionally.

According to the male artist, the job of MC has brought about a huge change in his life, especially financially. Previously, even if he acted in an entire film, he never earned a million dong. But since switching to hosting, he can earn several million dong in a single day. This more stable income has allowed Quyền Linh to think about a long-term future instead of just worrying about the present. The MC of "You Want to Date?" said that this change has made him start thinking about starting a family.
After his career became more stable, Quyen Linh met and married his wife, Da Thao. The male artist said that his wife is the one who brings him not only emotional support but also a great pillar of strength in life. "When we first met, I was hesitant because Da Thao was much better off than me. She was in business, had a motorbike, a car, and even her own house, while I had almost nothing, the word 'nothing' was everywhere. That's why I say my wife is my emotional support, making a significant change in my life. I have more motivation, more joy, and more happiness. My wife is my benefactor and also the benefactor of my life," he expressed.

The male artist believes that marriage is one of the most important turning points in his life. Previously, he had to face all difficulties alone, but after having a family, he has someone to share, encourage, and shoulder the pressures of life with. Not only does his wife provide emotional support, but she also helps him become more financially stable during the early stages of his career. According to Quyền Linh, his family has become the driving force behind his efforts. From someone who always lived in constant worry about making ends meet, he gradually built a stable life, was able to care for his parents, wife, and children, and continued pursuing his art with a more relaxed mindset.
