Launching the book “Financial Education” – a bridge to bring financial knowledge to students

In recent times, financial education has been actively implemented by the Government and many ministries and agencies to meet the requirements of equipping the community with financial knowledge and skills in the context of strong digital transformation and integration. Many financial education programs have been implemented in the community with the active participation of agencies and organizations, especially the participation of press and television agencies.

However, compared to the requirements, Vietnam's financial education needs many changes to meet current requirements. The development of science and technology brings many benefits to society, but also causes many financial risks if the community is not equipped with good financial knowledge. Technology crimes, online fraud, "black credit", trading in fake and poor quality goods on cyberspace... are taking place complicatedly around the world, requiring the need to raise awareness, knowledge and financial skills to contribute to protecting consumers using financial services.

According to the Vietnam Education Publishing House, the current system of financial education materials is often scattered, unsystematic and mainly consists of foreign documents. That leads to the limitation of popularizing knowledge suitable to the specific characteristics of the economic structure, culture, and awareness of our country. In fact, to raise public awareness of finance, it is necessary to have the most effective teaching approach in high schools.

The book series “Financial Education” compiled by MSc. Le Thi Thuy Sen, Editor-in-Chief of Banking Times, for the first time builds a comprehensive school financial knowledge system, suitable for the 2018 General Education Program, combining financial and banking theory with cultural values, ethics, and life skills.

The book series consists of three parts that are scientifically arranged, valuable in terms of knowledge, ensuring interdisciplinary and pedagogical aspects to be suitable for both teaching and learning at all levels with the criteria of easy to remember - easy to understand - easy to absorb - easy to apply and interesting.

In particular, the author has used many folk songs, proverbs, idioms, short stories, everyday stories, old stories, national traditions and familiar cultural symbols to bridge financial knowledge closer to students. The content is designed to integrate financial and banking knowledge with moral education, life skills and civic education.

The book series is also a concrete step in implementing the "National Comprehensive Financial Strategy to 2025, vision to 2030" approved by the Prime Minister, in which the financial strategy clearly states: Financial knowledge needs to be taught to high school students, integrated with subjects and levels in the curriculum to enhance understanding and develop financial capacity and thinking for the young generation.

Speaking at the book launch ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh - Chairman of the Board of Members, General Director of the Publishing House of Education of Vietnam shared that, realizing the urgency of equipping students of all levels with financial knowledge and skills, and diversifying the sources of content when implementing 2-session/day teaching, the Publishing House of Education of Vietnam organized and invited a group of authors who are experts with extensive experience in the field of financial and banking education to coordinate in compiling the book series "Financial Education", aiming to be able to be used in teaching at schools. In addition, the book series is also considered a useful reference document to improve people's knowledge, spreading financial knowledge widely to a variety of interested readers.

The book series “Financial Education” is not only a published product, but also the passion and belief of the Education Publishing House of Vietnam to the young generation of Vietnam. Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh hopes that the simple financial lessons will help children gradually form a solid financial mindset, know how to manage money intelligently, humanely and responsibly. The book series will be useful learning materials, valuable luggage, and close companions of children on the road to adulthood.
