On August 25, nearly 2 million students of the remaining grades from nearly 3,500 schools in Ho Chi Minh City returned to school one after another after the summer break. Previously, students of grades 1, 9, and 12 returned to school on August 20.
Accordingly, the 2025-2026 school year is the first new school year that Ho Chi Minh City merges with Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau, previously becoming the city with the largest school scale in the country.
Specifically, Ho Chi Minh City has more than 3,500 educational institutions at all levels, nearly 2.6 million students and over 100,000 administrators and teachers.
Of which, preschool has 478,458 students, primary school has 939,002 students, secondary school has 759,278 students (an increase of 42,978 students compared to the previous school year) and high school has 352,051 students.
In the new school year, one of the contents that the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City noted is that nearly 3,500 schools need to organize widespread and transparent communication about the number of students/class, study time, school year plan and education program; propagate and disseminate regulations and rules on testing and evaluation.
In addition, review and complete regulations, rules, student rules and information published on the school's electronic information portal; update the latest regulations on disease prevention.
Regarding financial and facilities management, strictly implement regulations on financial revenue and expenditure management, and publicize revenue and expenditure from the beginning of the school year.
Schools need to support students from poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households; ensure that there is no shortage of textbooks. It is strictly forbidden to force students to make or buy uniforms; schools only specify uniform designs so that students' families can equip and purchase them themselves, avoiding waste.
Schools develop school education plans at the same time as reviewing and evaluating the results of implementing the unit's proposed educational development strategy; carrying out quality assurance activities, evaluating and inspecting educational quality according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training .
In addition, implement democracy and accountability in managing educational activities; coordinate with students' families, organizations and individuals to build and implement educational activities voluntarily and consensually.
