Recently, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced that it will not organize receptions, accept flowers or gifts to celebrate the 43rd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20, 1982 - November 20, 2025).
This is the 13th consecutive year that the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has announced a refusal to accept flowers, gifts, and receive guests on the occasion of November 20.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, this is to practice thrift and fight waste according to the directives and resolutions of the Party and State that this unit has maintained for many years.
In addition to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the Department of Education and Training of Dong Nai also announced that they will not organize receptions and will not accept congratulatory flowers on November 20 to avoid formality and waste. This year, especially in the context of many localities across the country being heavily affected by natural disasters.
The Department encourages schools to follow suit to devote time and resources to teaching and professional activities.
The Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province also hopes that, instead of congratulatory flower baskets, units can care for and encourage teachers and schools affected by storms and floods by helping with teaching equipment and books.
At the school level, since the beginning of November, a series of schools have spoken out about refusing to receive flowers on Teachers' Day, hoping to switch to practical, meaningful gifts.
Since the beginning of November, Phan Van Tri Primary School (Cau Ong Lanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) has widely posted an announcement on the school's fanpage and website that on November 20, the school will not accept flowers, hoping to exchange them for books and notebooks for students.

Not receiving flowers on November 20 has become a tradition at Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School, Ho Chi Minh City.
Parents are familiar with the school's culture, so instead of giving flowers, parents will give practical gifts to students such as insurance cards, books, school supplies, etc.
Some schools such as Saigon University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Nha Trang University, and Trung Vuong University announced that they will not accept flowers to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20.
These schools hope that organizations and businesses can convert the cost of giving flowers into funds to support people in areas affected by storms and floods, and to build community projects.
