Binh Khanh Bridge crosses the Soai Rap River, connecting Hiep Phuoc Commune (former Nha Be District) with Binh Khanh Commune (former Can Gio District), and was started in August 2015 with a total investment of more than VND2,800 billion.
The project had a long period of "stasis", causing the progress of the entire Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway to be delayed. However, from the end of 2023, the project was restarted with a focus on human resources, equipment and investment capital, creating a new look.
Binh Khanh cable-stayed bridge is modernly designed with a total length of more than 2.76 km, of which the main bridge over Soai Rap river is 763 m long, creating an architectural highlight on the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway.
Binh Khanh Bridge has a two-plane cable-stayed design, H-shaped tower 135 m high, 55 m clearance, ensuring safety for "super-long, super-heavy" ships traveling on Soai Rap waterway.
A representative of contractor Shimizu said that as of August 20, the Binh Khanh cable-stayed bridge had reached a progress of more than 97.5%. The project is urgently constructing the asphalt pavement of the main bridge deck, installing railings and completing auxiliary traffic safety items.
According to the contractor representative, after restarting, the unit mobilized maximum manpower and equipment for construction. Although the complex terrain and geology across the river caused many obstacles, with the spirit of "overcoming the sun, overcoming the rain", the difficulties were gradually overcome, helping the project to be gradually completed for early handover to the investor.
Images recorded at the construction site show that the construction unit is mobilizing machinery and manpower to asphalt the Binh Khanh bridge surface. It is known that after completing the first asphalt layer, the bridge surface will be measured and checked for elevation. Only when the technical requirements are met, will the work of asphalting the next layer for the traffic section be deployed.
A section of the overpass connecting Tan Tao intersection to Binh Khanh bridge, part of package J1, has been asphalted and painted with road markings, ready for operation.
A representative of the Southern Expressway Project Management Board (VEC) said that the progress of the J1 package – Binh Khanh bridge on the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway will be completed on schedule. Currently, the contractor is rushing to complete the final items to hand over the project, ensuring compliance with commitments and technical requirements.
The Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway is 57.8 km long, passing through Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai . In early 2025, the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) opened nearly 30 km of the expressway to traffic on two sections: from the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway intersection to Nguyen Van Tao intersection and from Phuoc An intersection to National Highway 51 intersection.
In the near future, when Binh Khanh Bridge (package J1) is completed and Phuoc Khanh Bridge (package J3, expected to be completed in 2026) is put into use, the entire Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway will be officially closed. This route will become an important inter-regional traffic axis connecting the West with the Southeast. Binh Khanh Bridge is also the largest item of the project, with a total investment of more than 2,800 billion VND.
