Police were forced to stop Sterling's car at 9 a.m. on Thursday (May 28) on the M3 motorway in Hamphshire.
The 31-year-old striker was arrested after crashing his Lamborghini into a road barrier. At the time of the accident, Sterling was not sober as he was still under the influence of drugs.
Police have detained the former Man City striker for dangerous driving, possession of Class C drugs, and refusing to provide a test sample.
Because it was his first offense, Sterling was released on bail pending further investigation.
Earlier this year, Raheem Sterling had his contract terminated by Chelsea. He then moved to the Netherlands to play for Feyenoord.
Hampshire police said: "Just before 9 a.m. Thursday, we received reports of a Lamborghini colliding with a barrier on the M3 motorway, near the Minley interchange."
