A missed Panenka penalty is far worse than a regular missed penalty, because the player will subsequently suffer a blow to their pride, be ostracized by teammates, and face criticism from the audience…
Here are 5 of the worst Panenka penalties that make players look incredibly silly after taking them - according to Planet Football.
1. Andrea Pirlo
Italian football legend Andrea Pirlo once executed a Panenka-style penalty that couldn't have been worse in a friendly match between AC Milan and Barcelona in 2010.

2. Francesco Totti
Italian legend Francesco Totti also executed a Panenka penalty kick that was just as bad as Andrea Pirlo's. This incident occurred during an AS Roma vs. Lecce match in Serie A.

3. Raheem Sterling
The English striker became a laughing stock when he executed a terrible Panenka penalty in Manchester City's Carabao Cup match against Leicester City in 2018-2019.

4. Gary Lineker
With just one goal short of legendary Sir Bobby Charlton's record for England, Gary Lineker has the perfect opportunity to equal it.
The opportunity arose when England were awarded a penalty in their 1992 match against Brazil.
However, in his final appearance at Wembley, the legendary Lineker unfortunately missed a penalty. Speaking after the match, he said: "I saw the goalkeeper dive early so I tried to chip the ball over him… but when I took the shot I hit the grass and the ball didn't reach the top enough."
In contrast, coach Graham Taylor was much more blunt and cold when he commented: "You could say we played against Brazil with only 10 men."
A rather harsh remark, and a sad ending to what should have been a historic moment for Lineker.

5. Sergio Aguero
Striker Sergio Aguero had a chance to double Manchester City's lead against Chelsea in 2021, but his disastrous Panenka penalty was easily saved by goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Chelsea then came back and won 2–1, bringing Man City's Premier League title celebrations to a halt.
"I apologize to my teammates, coaching staff and fans for missing the penalty," the Argentinian legend wrote on Twitter after the match. "It was a bad decision and I take full responsibility."
Apart from that embarrassing penalty kick, Aguero's performance in that match was quite outstanding.
