Rap nowadays doesn't have as much swearing as before.

Returning with the new album 'Doi Chan Di', rapper Ricky Star is 100% supported by his family because Vietnamese rap has changed a lot, not cursing as much as before.

Ricky Star's real name is Tran Tien, born in 1994. He is a rapper and music producer with a rap style that is typical of the West, known after the "rap battle" with Bray. He founded the group Original Tay Do (OTD) with Pjpo in 2014, famous for the rap Ly Cay Bong.

In 2020, Ricky Star participated in the Rap Viet program and made a strong impression with the rap songs Bac Kim Thang, Con nha nguoi ta, Son Tinh - Thuy Tinh . He was the only contestant to receive 5 golden hats from the coaches.

Ricky Star struggles after Rap Viet

Ricky Star's family did not support his pursuit of rap. But because he persisted in his chosen path, he was able to convince both his parents and sister. All three were present at the album launch event to support him.

"After Rap Viet, I never imagined that rap would develop like it does now. From Rap Viet until now, rap has been very different, there is no more swearing like before.

"I used to think my mother was so brave, sending Tien to Saigon to fight with people, why did he fight back?" - Ricky Star's sister said.

The sister said that currently, the rapper receives 100% support from his family.

Ricky Star joined Rap Viet in 2020, the year the show created a "media explosion". It has been 5 years since then, he has released a few products, the most famous being the feat songs with AMEE such as Magical Friendship, Sao Anh Chua Ve Nha.

Ricky Star shared: "After Rap Viet , honestly, I didn't know who I was, what I was good at, and whether I was good at rapping or not. Some people said I was suitable for this and that, I believed and tried everything, but everything was confusing.

So I released many songs, many different genres, but after the ups and downs of emotions, after many changes after Rap Viet , I realized that what never changes is my emotions when playing music.

When I thought more simply, I realized that I make music for fun. I use music to tell my story, to make me happier."

'Feet never stray again'

The album "Doi Chan Di" includes 17 songs with pure hip hop style telling the journey from when Ricky Star first came to Saigon to start a career.

He writes music like diary entries to record his ups and downs in emotions. The rapper chose to release an album so that when he goes home he can remember having a happy day like today.

From initial doubts, the rapper searched and firmly believed in the path of music, so that "his feet would never lose their way again".

Each song is a piece of real experiences and stories, conveying messages of effort, faith, and burning madness with passion.

The album is also a tribute to the brothers who have accompanied me, reminding me of the dangers lurking on the journey to pursue my dreams.

Ricky Star collaborates with rap brothers such as: Sol7, Blacka, Lang LD, J Jade, Robber, Minh Lai, Beon, Pjpo, LJ, Sabirose, Seachains, Lancy, Suzie, Chim Map, Richie D. ICY.

Whether successful or not, Ricky Star's final destination is still family, homeland and roots, as an affirmation: "Under the ground there are sincere people, above the head there are gods, Buddhas and ancestors".

The raps are about love for music, love for the homeland, family and the path Ricky Star has chosen. He returns to the edgy, mature hip hop nature from the early days.
