Rodrygo can't go, can't stay

As the 2025 summer transfer window enters its climax with consecutive blockbuster deals, the name Rodrygo Goes gradually sinks into oblivion.

From being considered the future of Real Madrid, the Brazilian striker is now at risk of being pushed out of the plan without many quality options.

Rodrygo, born in 2001 in Osasco (Brazil), was once one of the gems of “Los Blancos”. However, inconsistent form and fierce competition in attack gradually made him lose his position. Rodrygo’s most notable mark last season was only 45 minutes in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona and 92 minutes in the Club World Cup.

Although Rodrygo himself has repeatedly expressed his desire to continue contributing to Real Madrid, rumors about his possible sale have continued to appear. Real's board of directors is willing to listen to offers worth 100 million euros - a figure that is enough to make many big clubs wary.

Rodrygo’s problem is not only due to his poor form (he once lost nearly 5 kg due to overload and lack of mental stability), but also because the transfer market is revolving around other names. Bayern Munich almost “finalized” Luis Díaz from Liverpool for a fee of around 80 million euros, with a long-term contract until 2029 and a salary of 14 million euros/year.

Liverpool, the reigning Premier League champions, have spent over €220m on Wirtz (€125m) and Ekitike (€95m), with no moves for Rodrygo. Arsenal have also spent €201m on Zubimendi (€70m), Madueke (€56m) and Gyökeres (€75m), leaving little room for a €100m deal.

The only option at the moment is Tottenham, but this is clearly a less attractive destination compared to Rodrygo's stature and ambition.

Rodrygo was once part of Real Madrid's rebuilding plans, but he is now a "redundant" in a star-studded squad. With big clubs almost done with their purchases, Rodrygo's exit from the Bernabéu is getting narrower.

From a talent expected to explode, the 24-year-old striker is facing the prospect of being left out of the flow of top football. If he does not quickly find a new destination or regain his form, Rodrygo will miss the most important train of his career.
