Internet language disorder

An aunt gave a gift to her niece, then received a thank-you message in typical "Gen Z" style, along with the heartfelt comment, "I really like this kind of love!" After a few seconds of stunned silence, she finally understood the meaning of the message.

Internet slang emerged with the advent of social media and would be unremarkable if it were only used online. However, as more and more young people participate in social media and their creativity knows no bounds, internet slang has followed users into real life. In communication, messaging, and even occasionally appearing in journalistic works... internet slang is easily encountered everywhere, and without keeping up with the trends, readers and listeners will be completely baffled!

Recently, the Palestinian ambassador, Saadadi Salama, introduced the book "My Vietnamese Story," which deeply analyzes the beauty of the Vietnamese language. Through the perspective of a foreigner who has spent a long time in Vietnam and understands Vietnamese culture, the Vietnamese language is truly beautiful, refined, and incredibly captivating. However, with the advent of the internet and the increasing cultural exchange between nations and cultures, the preservation of the purity of the Vietnamese language has become crucial in the face of the influx of foreign cultures, including the trend of favoring foreign languages. Then, with the emergence of social media, users freely create and modify Vietnamese into a kind of "mixed language," neither Western nor Chinese, and without any grammatical basis. Besides destroying the purity of the Vietnamese language, those who frequently use this writing style will gradually develop a habit of misspelling words, inadvertently damaging their own image.

I remember a few years ago, when attending a conference to contribute ideas to a political document, an intellectual used the word "concept" instead of "presentation format" (as this person had intended in their contribution). The attendees were quite confused. It wasn't because they didn't know the foreign language, but simply because using a foreign word in that context, especially when Vietnamese still had words available, was completely inappropriate!

Unconventional and creative use of foreign languages is an inevitable trend as the boundaries between cultures are almost blurred in the online space. However, users themselves must be aware of the limits of such use in order to contribute to preserving the purity of the Vietnamese language. Because "as long as the Vietnamese language exists, our country exists."
