The 38-year-old striker's achievement surpassed the milestone of 196 matches for the Kuwait national team of striker Badr Al-Mutawa.
C. Ronaldo equaled the number of matches with his age colleague when he entered the second half of the 2022 World Cup quarter-final match against Morocco 0-1 in December 2022.
Al-Mutawa played his 196th match in his team's 0-3 defeat to Jordan in the 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers in June 2022. The striker, who plays for Qadsia in the Kuwaiti Premier League, has 56 goals for his country.
Not only setting a record for appearances, C. Ronaldo continued to hold the record for most goals scored for a national team when he scored twice in a home win against Liechtenstein.
The 1985-born superstar has scored 120 goals for the Portuguese national team, 11 more than the second-placed Iranian legend Ali Daei. Of the two goals this morning, CR7 scored one from the 11m mark, the other from a free kick.
C. Ronaldo first played for the national team at the age of 18, coming on as a substitute for legendary Luis Figo in a friendly against Kazakhstan in 2003. He scored his first goal for Portugal in his 8th appearance against Greece.
Since then, the veteran striker has always played for the "Brazil of Europe". Before the Euro 2024 qualifiers, many people were skeptical about the possibility of CR7 being called up to the national team after being left out of the starting lineup by coach Fernando Santos for the last two matches of the 2022 World Cup.
However, under new coach Roberto Martinez, he is still present.
A week before the Euro 2024 qualifiers, C. Ronaldo also scored from a free kick in Al Nassr's 2-1 win over Abha in the Saudi Pro League.
The Portuguese superstar has scored nine goals since joining the tournament in Saudi Arabia. C. Ronaldo's impressive scoring record at Al Nassr has helped him continue to be called up to the national team despite mixed opinions about the competitiveness of the Asian tournament.
C. Ronaldo was born in 1985 and is a Portuguese football superstar. Passionate about football since childhood, C. Ronaldo left his hometown of Madeira alone to train in the capital city of Lisbon with the Sporting Lisbon youth team when he was only 12 years old.
After making a strong impression in the Sporting Lisbon youth team, he was noticed by MU and brought to Old Trafford in 2003. After 6 years of association, C. Ronaldo went from a "skinny" guy who loved to show off his personal skills to a top striker in Europe, a symbol of hard work to success.
CR7 continued to shine brightly during his 9 years playing for Real. He won 4 Champions Leagues and 4 Golden Balls for the Royal team in addition to a Champions League and a Golden Ball while at MU.
In 2018, C. Ronaldo moved to Juventus and in the summer of 2021 he returned to MU but the return to his "old home" was not as dreamy as expected.
Before attending the 2022 World Cup, the 38-year-old superstar publicly criticized the Red Devils' coach and board of directors, forcing both sides to terminate the contract ahead of schedule.
C. Ronaldo ended 20 years of playing football in Europe, looking for a new challenge in Asia since the beginning of this year.
In the national team jersey, the veteran striker won Euro 2016 and UEFA Nations League 2019 with Portugal.
