In the days leading up to the 2024 Lunar New Year, decorative dragon models were introduced to the public one after another. One of the notable works was two dragon mascots made from jars in the Tuong Binh Hiep lacquer craft village ( Binh Duong province) by the idea of artisan Nguyen Minh Thuan. The dragon head was designed from clay, hand-molded and fired in a wood-fired kiln, while the dragon body was made from 36 jars embossed with dragon images. These are inherent and famous local products. After the two dragon mascots appeared, many people were delighted and praised them as "other people's dragons", "the first pair of dragons" (Photo: Pham Dien).

Unlike the usual majestic appearance, the dragon mascot in Hiep Hoa district ( Bac Giang province) "caused a fever" because of its cute and familiar features like a cartoon character. The statue is called "young dragon" by netizens, besides some opinions that this character is "Western" because it has small wings. Mr. Bui Van Quan (32 years old) - the creator of the model - named the statue "happy dragon" with the hope that both adults and children will feel the cuteness and friendliness when looking at it. The dragon was made in more than 70 days, 4.5m high including the pedestal, weighs 10-12 tons, and is painted orange. This mascot will be displayed in Mr. Quan's garden in Hung Son commune (Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province) to welcome people to visit for free during Tet (Photo: Bui Van Quan).

For the past 3 years, Tet decorative mascots in Quang Tri province have always attracted much attention thanks to their sophisticated and highly aesthetic designs. After many days of waiting, artisan Dinh Van Tam (born in 1990, in Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri province) launched the 2024 Lunar New Year dragon mascot with a brave and majestic appearance. This model was ordered by the People's Committee of Lao Bao town (Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province) in early October 2023. The dragon mascot is about 4.5m high, with a winding body about 7m long, and a total weight of about 500kg. At the foot of the dragon statue is a yellow ball, symbolizing fortune. The model will be displayed in the central park of Lao Bao town, serving people to admire and take photos (Photo: Nhat Anh).

In addition to the decorative dragon model in Lao Bao town (Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province), artisan Dinh Van Tam also made a pair of dragon mascots placed at Van An pagoda, Dong Ha city, Quang Tri province. These two models are about 3m long, more than 2.5m high, arranged in a guard position on both sides of the pagoda door. The dragon is mainly yellow, has a majestic appearance, is made of concrete, and has solid steel inside. Many people admire the talent of artisan Dinh Van Tam and predict that the 3 mascots made by him and his team will continue to be in the top most impressive models this year (Photo: Dinh Van Tam).

The mascot of the Year of the Cat 2023 is the cat. Among them, the "cat beauty queen" model in Quang Tri province is considered the most beautiful work of the Tet season that year. This mascot, made by artisan Dinh Van Tam and a number of workers, is 3.1m high, 2.2m wide, 2.8m long, and inspired by the calico cat breed. The model is made from mostly lightweight materials such as plaster and foam. As soon as it was "launched", the statue was praised by many people for its adorable and realistic cat appearance (Photo: Tien Thanh).

Two "weightlifting cats" mascots in Ben Tre province also "caused a fever" on social networks during the 2023 Tet holiday thanks to their unique shapes. The pair of cats are about 1.80m tall, each with a large arm as a highlight, which is jokingly commented as "overdoing weightlifting". Mr. Phan Van Thong - the "father" of the two cat models - created this pair of mascots out of concrete in more than a week. He came up with the idea with the criteria that the cats must be unique, healthy, funny and bring joy to anyone who sees them. In addition to the gym arms, the cats wear glasses to look more "cool" (Photo: Contributor).

Artisan Dinh Van Tam in Quang Tri is also famous for creating the majestic tiger mascot for the Lunar New Year 2022. This model is 2.5m high and is placed in front of Le Duan Park, in the center of Dong Ha city, Quang Tri province. The tiger is shaped by artisans using foam, then plastered with plaster powder around it, and finally painted with the characteristic features of the "king of the jungle" such as beard, teeth, and claws to create a realistic appearance (Photo: Tien Thanh).
